I upgraded to Android 2.2 yesterday and some (read: most) of my videos now won't play. This was the same problem i had when i was rooted running 2.2 (part of the reason i unrooted and went to stock 2.2) and was hoping going back would solve the problem. i tested it on 2.1 before i upgraded to 2.2 and they were working.....post update though, no dice. can anyone help?

I hope someone has an answer to this...I am having the same issue...videos were working fine with 2.1 but some now do not work with 2.2

Also really annoying is how task killers do not work yet with 2.2. I hate when i close a browser, use my task killer, and then open a browser later and its on the same page i was on before!

Having exact same issue, none of my MP4's will play anymore.

Posted this problem in the "All things Root" forum awhile ago but no one ever responded so I figured it was only me or no one watch's videos on their phone.

i am having the same problem....although it only seems to be effecting a couple out of the 10 or so movies i have on my droid.

Sounds like they left the MP4 codec out of the build. Since you tube is all html5 can you go there play videos? Is it only MP4s or is there a mix of types?

mp4s are working for me. its wmv types that aren't. that's the only type i have noticed not working. flash and other videos on the internet have all worked (so far) but just the wmv files i have saved that don't.

Not sure about the videos but FroYo has a built in task manager that does work from what I have seen.

Do you have to do anything to have this work? I would like my browser sessions to be killed when i close them or when i "kill them" like i could with a task killer...any idea if we can still do this?

You have to goto settings and then go to manage applications and then running. From there you can force close but there is nothing as convenient as Advanced Task Killer or some of those yet that I have seen.

It would appear, that currently, there are no task killers that are compatible with Froyo. That is not to say there will not be in the future (god I hope so), but StrifeJester is correct, Froyo does a decent job of managing itself.

Though I do miss being able to kill a browser session with just a touch!

Same problem here. I've haven't checked out all video formats, but I couldn't play movie trailers or YouTube posts.

Never used a task killer, but killing browser windows is pretty easy... In the browser just touch the "menu" key, then "windows" then the 'x" next to the one you want to kill. I know it's three touches, but it's still pretty quick, especially if you already have the browser open.

I installed the new Droid 2.2 this morning and now most of my movies on my phone will not play. They worked using 2.1. Anyone have any suggestions or do we have to wait until "Late Summer" to install Flash 10.1 to get them to work?

I know this thread is old but this might help all the movies I had on my phone worked when I was on 2.1 but when I updated to froyo 2.2 half of my mp4 format movies stoped working. I was playing around today and I downloaded astro file manager for free from the marketplace and I navigated to the mp4 movies on my sd card that didn't work since the update and I edited the file name from mp4 to wmv and to my surprise they worked and they also show up in my gallery now. Hopefully this might help someone. It worked for me.

Welcome to the forums, angelkiller. And don't be concerned about how old this thread is if it fits your situation/advice; it's great to see that a new member actually searched before posting. ;)

What you're describing there looks like a great tip/how-to for the Droid. I'd like to invite you to post that solution in the Droid How-to and Tips sub-forum: Droid - How-to and Tips - Android Forums.
