Root running stock 2.1, best route for froyo and a few questions

had the dX for about a month now, still running the stock 2.1 OS and have not upgraded to froyo yet, i played with a friends phone with 2.2 OTA but he has had some issues with the phone since OTA and i am concerned about upgrading with the whole bootloader deal and not being able to do what i want with the phone. currently with the dX i have it rooted with universal androot with recovery and thats about it.

i am new to the dX and i have been reading alot, but i have a few questions because there doesnt seem to be a clear answer anyhwere on what the best route to go is. i am coming from a rooted custom rom'd and OC'd eris so i am familiar with the processes and how to modify android.

here is what i am looking to do

Froyo
root
overclock
recovery
custom rom/theme
remove bloatware
deodex

from what i have read i have 2 options, 2.2 leak and OTA

is there is a leaked 2.3.15 and is that the best option over the OTA ?

What does the OTA offer that the leak doesnt and vice versa

i guess once i figure out what version of 2.2 to go with i can take the rest from there. i have been looking at the team black hat app is this a good idea ?

Also, after coming from sense i hate the moto dialer, personally think its terrible no easy way to just call someone wiht out dialing a million things, is there options for a custom dialer like the sense dialer ?

Root is available several ways, some easy, some involved. See the sticky at the top of Droid X-All Things Root. After rooting Titanium Back Up is best for backing up, freezing/or removing bloatwear. Be careful, some things cannot be safely removed. There is a list on All things root I believe. I just froze and hid the apps I didn't want with Ti BU. Overclock, several methods listed in All Things Root, 2 apps available on the market for OC with preselectet set points, or you can do it yourself. ROMs and Themes I haven't attempted yet, but lots of posts and help are here, just ask. Have fun.

question myself. i had the ota 2.2. then i bricked my phone and had to flash to the leaked 2.2 via the partial sbf that was out. (2.3.13)

im running .5 rubix right now but was wondering would the best thing be to flash the full sbf for ota 2.2 or do i still technically have the ota 2.2. ???

This is what I have done, and I am very happy with my setup. Other people might have different routes to accomplish the same thing. I was very patient and then took the safe and simple methods and put them to work... nothing to complicated.


Froyo:
RSDLite 4.8, Flash Full System SBF- I beleive this is what the majority of users have gone to. Not much benefit to keeping the old kernal, radio, and bootloader, that are on the leak versions. Be sure you have downloaded the moto connect drivers if they aren't installed already to your PC.

Root:
SuperOneClickRoot- USB Debugging must be checked. Plug in Phone, Run App as Administrator (right click Run as Admin), Click Root. Done

Custom Rom:
I installed Apex 1.0, you can use Koush Bootstrapper or Rom Manager. It is Pre-deodexed (as most Rom are nowadays) and Pre-Overclocked to 1.1. Plus he included a script to OC @ 1.3 which I use and my device is handling it flawlessly.

Theme:
I used the NexTheme attached to Fab's Apex Post. I've also used the BidDX themes. Both can be installed w/ Rom Manager.

Back Up:
I use Titanium Backup- It will freeze or remove what ever apps you want. For restoring though use "Restore Missing Apps + Data" Not the system restore. I've had a few random problems with restoring system processes that were intentionally gotten rid of... I also got the constant sync notification. So now I just redo system processes on my own (Like setting up email)

You still have 2.2 OTA but now with a custom Rom. No need to flash full SBF if you aren't having problems.
