Help S2 makes sound on email (Gmail) deleteion?!

When I read/delete (don't know which action, it is annoying nonetheless) email in my Gmail account through a computer, my S2 makes a sound like a new mail has arrived. This is annoying and useless.
Any way to stop it? All I want is notification when new email arrives...don't need anyone to tell me you just deleted a message. I already know that.

i read this is a new feature for older phone users, who make up an exponentially growing target market - those over 70 years old.

it is for those older users with alzheimers, i believe, who forget what they were just doing.
