I used an iPhone 3G then 3GS then I swapped S2 instead iPhone 4 and I feel that the 4S is a big big fail.... Can't believe Apple would make a big mistake like this already lost 5% of market share, I think by end year be close 15% and Android will only get stronger with new OS

The thing about losing market share% is that it's deceiving.

Even though Apple is losing market share% they're still selling more smartphones than ever.... it's just that more and more people are buying smartphones, so even though they're losing market share% they're still gaining sales (as is every other manufacturer).

    maybe little off topic but...

    R.I.P Steve Jobs :(

I have to admit I`m not a fan of apple and seriously iphone 4 was very bad experience for me especially comparing to SGS2 but i pay big respect to Steve Jobs as he achieved a lot and created very strong brand + created "gadget-lovers" society all over world as proved by amount of sales from apple product... which is not so easy for everyday Joe with no offence... Great talent! Respect...

But since this moment and recent fail with Iphone 4s I don`t see good future for apple... tough time rather and as Morat said above that if SGS3 will be as good as speculated Samsung will beat apple in sales with no prob... And that is seriously possible!

I think in time to come, people who owns iPhone will get sick of it, and jump ship when their contract expires. I also think majority of Android users are anti-apple.

yeah, i was saddened to hear the news too.. great man, true visionary.. certainly a game changer, and changed the way smartphones are looked at, among many other things. i dont think we wouldve had android phones made the way we do now, if not for the original iphone.

Jobs will be missed...not anti-apple but the iphone was losing it's magic to me so i went evo 4g then jumped on the SGS2...very happy with that decision

    RIP Steve Jobs

There are a number of Tech news sites, that are reporting that surveys show that in some areas Android is out selling Apple as Android is becoming a more popular OS. The 4s is not really going to help Apple that much as it's not really a game changer.

samsung will be selling more smartphones as well, after the SGS2 gets into a few more hands...android is the new apple...apple, without jobs, is the new MS

I am using SGS2 and very happy with it. I won't say its perfect since it has its own issues. But I don't think we need to compare with IPhone and start dishing that.

They are totally 2 different phones running on different platforms. I think IPhone is a great phone in its own way. I know that Apple locks their phones such that if you really want to fully utilize its capabilities, you need to jailbreak it. IPhone 4S now have notification bar. You don't need 4S to do it. I have a colleague with a jailbreak IPhone 4 that already have that app.

What I am saying is that IPhone 4/4s, is just a different phone and great in its own way. That Apple is not allowing the phone to be the best is just Apple's problem and not the phone.

As for SGS2, we know its top of the range. But it has to be. Besides it is a much newer phone. And we do expect new phones to be better. Its just that if you do it really good, it stays at the top longer. SGS2 manages that.

As for IPhone 4S. I think they were under tremendous pressure to release a phone. Delayed too many times. Why didn't release IPhone 5? I am thinking it has to do with screen and battery. A larger screen if it is not as good as the current retina display would be disastrous. And larger screen means higher battery consumption and maybe Apple couldn't increase the battery life to something that they are comfortable with. Particularly if they try to add 4G into it.

So let them be. A lot of people will wait for the IPhone 5 instead of getting the 4S. And that's given. But what is also given is that because of it, SGS2 will last that little bit longer at the top of the smartphone pile. And I think we can just be glad for that. Don't need to dish other people's phone or choices.

    Cheers

The iPhone is far from dead, and with more carriers on board, this will be the most successful iPhone yet.

Android market share is skewed, my gran has a £40 Android phone running v1.0X how that can be equally compared to an iPhone sale i dont know - theyre totally different phones.

Coming from iPhone it's clear to see what Androids faults are. Fragmentation. There are so many handsets running so many versions of Android, all with different screens, CPUs, Ram etc etc. The new version of Android has to go through the carriers before users can get it( just see the 2.3.4 via Kies thread) and you have no idea when you'll get it.

I'm not trying to bash Android or praise iOS, but there's no arguing that the iOS eco system and handset variety is much simpler than Android and therefore developers choose iOS. As mentioned above, the apps on the two platforms dont compare imo, not just from a feature perspective but the quality, look and feel is just a different class.

Hopefully ICS can make everything harmonious on the platform.

I love my SGS2 by the way :D

its easy to dis the iphone users because most are sheep....as well said by morat =
...BUT....theres a few who wisen up and broaden their thinking and explore other possibilities. some make the change to another phone, some dont. personally im a "back the underdog" in all things, and its fun poking fun at my mates with iphones when they are restricted. its not malicious, just a bit of fun.

the question for me, who is due an upgrade/contract ends soon (in a month) is do i wait for the nexus prime or sg3?

i think the sg3 is probaby 6 months away whilst the nexus prime will arrive probably before christmas, so i guess that answers my question i.e not gonna wait 6 months.

buuuuuut i've been longing for a gs2 for ages! how do ppl find the nexus compared to the sg2?

this is probably gonna be my 'worry'. getting the prime, then samsung coming out a few months later with a better all rounder with the gs3..exactly what happened with the nexus and sg2.

i know new phones are always around the corner but these next two are like the annual flagship phones and i can bear having them on 12-18m contracts as long as i know i got them fresh out of the oven :(

The link below is probably just guesswork...
Samsung Galaxy Nexus Prime VS Samsung Galaxy S2

But if true, it means nexus prime isn't really all that impressive, hardware-wise. Software wise, well, we can always depend on xda and pple here. :p

I have an S2 and anytime i look at it, i don't see a Dual core, 16GB...... and all the hardware specs people talk so much about. People, pls get this, hardware accounts for the just a portion of the overall user experience for a device. Once your device meets the requirements, a greater portion lies in software which helps you to interact with your phone. this is where i think Apple does it well.

    Compare the following

    compare the following
    1. Itunes vs KIES (Apple wins cos KIES is crappy) Apple wins
    2. IOS updates VS Samsung Updates (How regular do we get official updates on the S2? the only way is to use Odin / Root your device. Apple? over the air and timely without any issues). Apple wins
    3. APP performance on IOS VS Apps on S2. IOS wins
    4. Customer Service IOS wins

Also, i have a job and other responsibilities, I do not have time to sit around manually flashing firmware and rooting my device?

I am not here to take sides because we need both ecosystems to to ensure there is constant innovation and value for money where the consumer is concern. But sometimes we need to face and tell our device manufacturers to do things well.

apples reluctance to release a larger screened model is an act of shooting itself in the foot.
3.5 is just too small to check the net, watch a movie while waiting for a plane or reading a pdf.

both phones are thin as anyone needs.
    apparently iOS 'just works'.
android is good but not perfect by any means. i find 3G, text messaging and even reception not working sometimes but its seldom, although still there.

apple is a walled in system whereas android is free and open (to a certain extent).

its all a matter of opinion and what people use their phones for.
personally, android and the SGS2 is a clear winner but for others, apple is the winner.

Why bother with software to do something that's easily accomplished with drag-and-drop copying?

How often do you need updates? Apple releases major updates to iOS what, once a year (if that)? Why do you assume that your GS2 should immediately receive every minor update?

    Seriously? ;)

I'll have to give you that one.... I've never had need to contact CS for any of my handsets. :)

So don't. If your GS2 doesn't do what you want it to do as is, return/sell it and get the iPhone 4S. Life's too short to let frustration with a smartphone spoil it.

I don't see how 'Record pre-sales' and 'shooting themselves in the foot' quite fit together - but ok.....

IPhone and SGS2 are different phones and different platforms. Different experience.

I would agree that IPhone have the better apps and store. But you get that with so many restrictions. And you can't customize so many things without jailbreak. And so many apps needs to be purchased.

Android is rather fragmented since so many phones uses it. So sometimes the apps works well in one phone but not another. But its so much fun experimenting sometimes. And the things we can change in the phone is staggering and don't need root to do it.

The best part is, SGS2 is simply the top range. Its the specs that makes it fast and enjoyable and the ability to do so many things. Who wants to surf the net if it takes you 10minutes to load a page. Had that with my 3 year old ASUS last time.

But the next best phone is always just round the corner. Maybe IPhone 5 will be another trendsetter. For me, all that matters is that SGS2 is the best right now IMHO. Maybe if IPhone was faster, with a bigger screen and can do the things that SGS2 can do without jailbreak, then maybe can say IPhone is better.

Hope Apple do something good next time, because then everyone else can do better. Its competition that gave us all these amazing phones.

    Cheers

looking at the release dates, basically google phone = end of year december, galaxy series = mid year may-july.

    :(

i don't wanna wait till may for sg3 :'(, which inevitable is probably gonna be beastly compared to the nexus'.

there was talks about sg3 coming early 2012 but it definitely won't happen with the nexus coming out soon.
