SamMobile Vodafone (UK) Firmware

I have just downloaded the Vodafone ICS firmware from SamMobile and was wondering if someone could guide me through flashing it with Odin and then rooting it?

Any help would be appricated.

To flash the firmware
1. Download and instal 7zip/winrar on your PC
2.Download Odin

3. If you don't have kies installed on your PC instal it from Samsung
4. Right mouse click on the ics firmware you have downloaded and select extract. You should now have a .tar or .tar.md5.
5. On your phone go to settings, applications, development and tick USB development. Now turn off your phone.
6. Hold power, volume down and menu until your phone boots up.
7. You should be asked if you want to continue into download mode, press up to continue.
8. Make sure kies isn't running I'm the background
9. Open Odin on your PC
10. Tick pda and add the .tar/tar.md5
11. Do not tick or untick any other boxes
12. Connect your phone, still in download mode to your PC and press start.
13. Let me know when you're done and I'll help you root.

Is it best to do a backup first? What is the best way to do a backup? Shall I use Kies?

Also, when I root will I get CWM back?

Are you already rooted? If yes do a nandroid, flash the firmware and then reroot with cfroot.

Sorry to be a noob, but what is nandroid? I don't know what you mean.

Are you rooted? If you are boot into cwm recovery and make a backup (nandroid)

Ok. Thanks. I did a back up before using CWM when I was using a rom. When I restored the back up, it went back to ginger bread. Is that the back up you mean?

Yeah that's the one. The fact that you've rooted before makes flashing the firmware easier. Just do what you did with the cfroot kernel but with the firmware .tar instead.

OK. So I have now flashed my phone using the SamMobile firmware. Can someone now explain to me how I gain root access back?

Thanks for your reply. When checking my phone this is what I see:

Baseband version: I9100BULP6
Kernal version: 3.0. 15-I9100BULPC-CL332484 dpi@DELL154 #3

Does that mean my kernal version is LP6?

If so, is this the correct link I need: CF-Root Download

Your kernel is LPC so use this one
