Help Samsung Epic 4g

So I bought the EPIC 4G and I am not in love. My girlfriend has the EVO and it works great. We set up easytether on the laptop and every time we plug in the EVO it establishes a connection ASAP. When I connect the Epic, NOTHING. My laptop isn't even detecting the Epic at all. I downloaded and installed the Samsung driver but it did no good.

Should I just return this for the EVO or what? Can someone help me trouble shoot this piece of phone?
