I want to change from virgin mobile to At&T. I bought my galaxy 3 from virgin and because we have found that we are in a dead zone we want to change over to at&t and we were told that the phone could not be changed to at& t and that we would have to buy a new phone. Is this true?

The technology Virgin uses (CDMA) and the one AT&T uses (GSM) are like apples and ducks - you can't use a phone for one on the other kind of network. They're telling you the truth.

The S3 still has some value, though - sell it to get some of the money you need for the new phone. (And if you're still in your contract, and they're going to charge you an early termination fee for leaving early, tell them that the contract was voided by their inability to provide you with service, knowing where you lived. Most courts have upheld this [and made the carriers pay the legal fees and costs, so thecarriers usually waive the ETF.)
