I've played around with the unlocked model and it's not that bad a phone. It's a lil big but I got big hands anyway. Honestly it's really not much different than using a note 3. Performance wise it runs pretty smooth. You do get that occasional "touchwiz lag" that Samsung is famous for but nothing to bad. Sound quality and speakerphone sounded decent. Its worth 400 IMO. As stated before the nexus 5 is the better purchase but if your looking for a phablet or a note type phone you won't go wrong with the mega either.

It is a humorous phone, and I appreciate that sense of humor. It would look catoonish in 90% of people's hands, and its overpriced for what it is. 8gb of space (probably 2gb taken by system) is a joke for multimedia phone.

The mega has 16gb of internal memory not 8. So its right on par with the 16gb nexus 5. Now I don't hear anyone refer to the nexus 5 as a joke for a multimedia phone so why would the mega be if they have the same internal storage space? Unless you actually used or even handled the phone how can anyone give a fair assessment of it? If you don't like it don't buy it plain and simple but for some they may want it. Trying to put them down for what they may or may not want to buy is humorous to me. I'm sure if we went thru your belongings we would all find things we all found a Lil odd or humorous also.

Not to mention the memory is expandable on the mega while it is not on the nexus 5. So for arguments sake the mega is actually capable of having more storage space than the nexus 5 with both having 16gb of space to start with. As for looking cartoonish in 90% of the peoples hands so what. I don't think Samsung stated they want to sell this phone to 100% of the u.s. population. So really what's it matter how it looks in 90% of peoples hands. If someone buys it and is happy with it good for them. They enjoyed there purchase. What amuses me is when the original note came out people said the same thing. No one will ever buy a phone that big that looks cartoonish. Yea good call on that one noone ever bought a note.....

Apologies, phonearena stated it has 8gb. I did not check metro site. If I don't like it, I have the same right to express it as you. This phone is not goos deal for the money.

the difference is everything else. for a current metropcs customer the mega will set you back 400 bucks, as will the 16gb nexus 5. i can understand getting the mega if you really need teh big screen, but just about everything else is better on the nexus 5. the bigger battery is subjective, touchwiz drains more battery than aosp, as does a bigger screen, so it all depends on the persons usage. with the nexus 5 it has newer software (means it tends to be faster and less malware), screen resolution is better, chipset is more than double in performance, updates directly from google, its multiband so if metro does something to piss you off you can take it to ANY gsm carrier, heck you can even take it to ting and various other sprint networks if you prefer cdma.

its not that the mega is a bad phone by any means, it just isnt worth 400 bucks IMO. motorola launched teh moto g which has specs that are comparable to the mega in many ways and its only 200 bucks for it. obviously some people are going to be genuinely interested in the mega, just like some people were genuinely interested in the lightray.

why so many people are adamant about posting "negatively" is if someone who doesnt research devices and is looking for the "next big thing" by samsung is gunna see the mega as teh newest device by them and think its the best one. chances are if they are coming to this site they care about rooting and having custom roms etc.

Of course it's your right not to like something due to it's specs or think it's not the best deal for the $. That's called a debate and is good.

I been reading reviews here ( see link) trying to find out if apps can be moved tp SD card. From reading the reviews of over 1500 of them most seem very happy with the phone. Still trying to find the answer to my question.

Going to metro store today and see for myself.

Hey..once it's in my hands I might say no way (I doubt it ) and decide it's not for me. On the size thingy..I been watching youtube videos where people hold it to their ear and I don't think it looks as big as it sounds, but that's just me . :)

Yes I agree, it's not worth $400 considering the specs compare to other phones . I think the price is due to the screen size more so than the specs and I can understand that. That being said the specs aren't that bad (as you said) and it has some nice features.

These very same specs cost a lot more when it was the latest and the greatest on other phones, and not too long ago.

Then again I think most phones are overpriced even with the better specs. That's just me.

I'm still seriously thinking of buying it..I get headaches trying to read on small screens ,plus I surf a lot of forums.

Plus my connect is acting up

PS: Can I activate the Mega by calling Metro and avoid a activation fee if I was to buy it from a non corporate metro store ?

    Thanks

any store will charge you an activation fee. Just go to the store and check it out.

Connect has an extremely old screen. Size of screen is not all that matters, ppi is very important too. If I were you, I'd check out more phones before getting mega.

Cant argue the nexus 5 is the better deal. But some people do want a "note" like experience and the closest to that without getting an actual note is the mega. It just amuses me the amount of bashing on a device people do when they never even held the phone in there hands, I think part of the pricing thing is that google does release there nexus devices with such a low price point people see this as the norm. Its not. Phones with similar specs to the mega (dual core more than a gig of ram hd screen 8mp camera with hd video 16gb of internal storage) generally go for 500 to 600 brand new. True you could get a used unlocked note 2 for cheaper but some people have reservations about buying new. I can say with almost 100% confidence this phone will sell great on metro, It fits an area where metro currently has no offerings. If you compare it to the s4 its actually a steal at the 400 price point. Side by side in real world performance they are very close. Its really not a bad device. Lil big yes but its really not much different than holding the note 3 at all. As the old sayin goes dont knock it till you try it.

i could care less about how big the screen is for ridiculousness arguement, if they released this with snapdragon 600 or 800 chipset and a 1080p screen id consider it myself. but no, dual core devices are not 500-600. the s3 is priced similar to this and its last years phone. the nexus is sold at a price point that is forcing the average consumer to rethink is the latest iphone/samsung really worth 650+ bucks? because with those you get a brand name, simple as that on why you pay so much.

Actually, any store should NOT charge you an activation fee. They might charge you an upgrade fee if you are an existing customer, but if you are activating new service with MetroPCS, you should only be charged the cost of the phone, taxes on the phone, and the first month of service.

I'm not sure about new subscribers, you are probably right, but that it cost extra when you are upgrading instore instead of online, that's for sure.

It is corporate policy that Every Phone be charged for in store activation and phones aren't supposed to leave a store unactivated.

I went to a metro store a couple of hours go. I really like it ,now that I held it in person.

Really bright screen and loud enough speaker and very clear. I held it next to the S4 with both brightness set to the highest and the Mega edged the S4 out in brightness by a tad. I even asked the young girl behind the counter which was brighter while I was holding both up and she also said the mega.

I tried the one handed option and it works great..can be moved to left or right side of screen while just using your thumb to enter phone number.Girl behind counter didn't know about this feature until I showed her.

Took some pics and video in the store ..good enough for me. Compared to my connect it rocks. I'm not big on pictures and taking videos.I don't use facebook or twitter.

Touch Wiz seem to work just fine and smooth when swiping and touching the screen with hardly any effort. Watched the 2 sample videos on it and was impressed.

    No noticeable lag .

It has a decent heft/weight to it ..not heavy at all .

It is big ,but it doesn't bother me. I spend way more time on the internet forums or researching crap or netflix than I do talking or texting so this size is great for me with my vision.

Has the same cheap plastic covers that samsung phones are known for ,but it was nice enough to look at. It does have 16gb not 8gb.

It's loaded with crap..imagine 2 full screens on a 6.3" screen full of junk . So I'm sure most of this bloatware is there to stay unless you ...

This store is open tomorrow and will test it out some more before deciding.Bad thing is the store phone isn't connected to the internet so no testing of web surfing. Has to be better than the LG connect and the connect isn't bad at all when it's not acting up.

PS: $400 + Taxes and activation fee will put it around $450..ugh. I have Christmas shopping to do so this purchase will hurt. I have to decide before the price goes back to $499.

I been with Metro for a few years now and don't see why I have to pay an activation fee if I buy the phone in the store. Not fair to store owner being now I will buy it straight from MetroPCS website and the store owner doesn't make anything off my sale.

Do other carriers charge an activation fee when upgrading your phone ? Been a while since I left verizon and don't remember if they do it also.

Went to MetroPCS to read the Return Rules.

They suck if you are already a customer. If new activation you get 30 days to return no questions asked ,existing customers upgrading get nothing..zilch nada. See last paragraph.

    "
What are the rules for returns of phones purchased online?

Online customers must return the phone to the Online Returns Center per the instructions included in the shipment packaging. MetroPCS stores and Authorized Dealers cannot accept returns for phones purchased online.

Before I head over to family for Thanksgiving I'm going to my Metro store one more time to make my decision.

It's not a bad phone spec wise ,but not worth a total of $450 ...no phone is in my mind ,but I need a freaking bigger screen .

    What to do ....

    I'll report back :D

Well I went to the metro store near me earlier in the day and was playing with the Mega again and decided just to get it and stop clowning.

So I said to the girl I'll take it. She can't find it and goes in the back office to ask the owner where they are, thinking they were maybe still in a box . (Turns out there's a new owner)

Owner comes out and says sorry they don't have any and that they will have them tomorrow after 1 pm. He actually felt bad .

He told the girl when I come in tomorrow to give me a free case and earplugs tomorrow.

What a nice surprised compared to the last owner who wasn't the nicest guy to deal with.

PS: Hope everyone enjoyed their holiday..I'm stuffed !

Being I'm getting the Mega tomorrow ,I started reading the online manual. It's 285 pages ( Too Many ) and all in English . I was checking the Network modes and was surprise to see there's 3 options. Not sure if this is common among newer phones , but I'm glad they are there.

    Network mode

Tmobile doesn't disable these. Metro disabled them so you had to use a hidden menu, because they didn't want people going down to EvDo and escape the throttle. Since EvDo was in most cases faster than throttled LTE
