My Samsung was beeping to plug it in and then died. Now after hours of being plugged in all I get is the battery screen with nothing, or the Samsung Screen and nothing. Has anyone else had this issue?

That sounds like the battery has not been charged. I assume that by "and then nothing" you mean the screen goes off.
Try a different charger
Check the usb port for dirt with a light and magnifying glass and wooden toothpick.
Take the battery in and out and check the terminals
Try a different battery
Chargers batteries and usb ports all fail sometimes
It may afterall be a software issue but check the hardware first.
