Help Samsung Galaxy S5- Not Getting Notifications

I got my Galaxy S5 a few weeks ago. Everything's been great so far, except I don't get notifications for apps that aren't running. I've tried finding solutions to this problem and have gone through my settings, bu I can't seem to be able to find the problem. Help please?

Thank you! By notifications, I mean push notifications. For example, if I don't have Snapchat open and I receive a snap, I'm supposed to get a notification saying that I have received one. Instead, I don't even know that I've received a new one until I go to the app instead.

Or just select push notification in the Google settings

I've done that and everything says that notifications should be on, but I still don't receive any unless the app is running.

I have the same problem. I assume it was something I did when I downloaded some of the apps because some notifications work and others don't. Is there some sort of master notification panel in the settings?

Would love to figure this out.

if an app does not run in the background "as a service", it will NOT be able to receive any notifications.
