Samsung and gone through some big changes over the years.
from bottom to top.. but have they lost touch with the customers?

a few years ago.. Samsung was the underdog in the mobile device market.
HTC, Motorola, others were up.. and of course iphone.
    Now, HTC is way down.

Samsung tried.. and had some bad press with their first android phones.
    slow updates..
    quality issues
    GPS issues
they were hungry and would do anything to get more market share.

then things got good for Samsung. Galaxy series started to get better
they fixed things that people were complaining about.
    timely updates
    gps
    quality

and now they are.. the big dog of android phones.
but look what they are doing now!
    Knox lockdown
    locked bootloader
    region locked
    more and more bloatware

will this next bad move.. push the public to turn away from Samsung?
on the Galaxy Note3.. the next update to Kit Kat.. they will lock out cases made by 3rd party manufactures that have S-view functions.
these 3rd party cases will stop working with S-view.
There is a fix, but your phone has to be rooted. and that voids your warranty! I am sure devs will find a way to work around this.

but the point is.. we see what Samsung is doing.
in my opinion.. what they are doing is worse than apple.
and is this a hint of more controls coming? with future phones and updates?
is Samsung getting to big? and just want to force more $$ out of us?

well.. now HTC is very hungry!! what will they do.. to help upset customers find a new phone? then there is Motorala and LG, both are making big moves.
if Sammy don't get their heads out of their behinds... they may find themselves back at the bottom!

I don't like samsung phones I find them over rated and the build a joke for the price you pay. Im now buying htc phones because they are HQ and the one is just perfect.

TBH I don't think most members of the general public would have much of an opinion, not unless they're familiar and know the meaning of terms like bootloader, ROM, CWM, root, etc.

The region locking is really to clamp down on the grey market AFAIK. You can still buy a Samsung phone in one country, activate it there and use it anywhere you like. Unless it's locked to a particular carrier.

That was suppose to be the idea, but after reading in the note 3 forum around launch it appeared the region lock software was buggy. Then it was later discovered that there was a blacklist of countries that even after the local activation it still wouldn't work in.

I wonder how that works, could be something like a list of blacklisted countries and/or carriers that Samsung maintains. e.g. If China Mobile SIM is inserted, disable functionality. ...which sounds quite nasty.

I got a Samsung at the moment that I'm currently happy with, but don't think I'd buy another one, not at the way things seem to be going with them. Rather buy a phone from a manufacturer that supports and encourages third-party ROM development, like Oppo or Xiaomi.

    Yeah, that's kinda pathetic tbh.

Didn't they do something similar with 3rd Party batteries a while back (or was that just something the blog sites spoke about)?

I don't like or use s-view but it does seem a bit dirty too add this now, that said they want users to buy their products so you should get certain benefits from buying Samsung cases over 3rd party products.

Anyway, my next phone won't be from Samsung but it's more to do with Knox and touchwiz than anything else.

Yeah the knox thing sealed their fate for me lol.
Imo a company should have enough faith in their accessories to allow a bit of healthy competition. People should buy OEM because its the best, not because its a monopoly

I was an HTC man for 5 phones.. And hated Samsung.

Then galaxy s2.. Things got better.
I gave Sammy a try. So got an s3.. Great phone. ..now a note3. Very happy with note3. But there are issues with gas and compass. I exchanged it.. And the new one has same issues

As it stands.. My next phone may not be a Samsung.

I sure hope some other manufacturer can do pens too.

Maybe if they priced it more competitively it would sell more.

    Wow $50!!!
Yeah price it fairly instead of holding customers to ransom. Thats ridiculous. Theres no way id ever pay that for a case like that and i dont know anyone who would.
I dont like bringing apple into it but thats apple-style pricing

That's Samsung's fail. They really need to get an identity of their own . It's almost bipolar. Someone tell them they're competing with Apple, not trying to be them.

One of my favorite phones ever was samsung A300 flip. Nice keys, nice external display, dampened hinge, nice weight. When I lost it I remembered they make televisions so didn't bother with them since.

My experience with HTC was with the most plasticcy windows smartphones evar. It's nice to see them both making decent hardware now but where are all the others like Sharp, Philips, Mitsubishi, Bosch? We need more choice.

Samsung I believe is a private company, meaning that the public cant invest in Samsung. Samsung is owned by Samsung. They do want control over everything, even the OS with Tizen. But can you blame them? I dont know, im kinda a samsung fanboy. I just want better customer service and morality from them.

Or even Samsung themselves, who donated several Galaxy S2s to the Cyanogen dev team shortly after launch. ;)

'Samsung' is nothing less a multinational conglomerate, with more than 80 subsidiary or associated companies. These include Samsung Electronics (the world's largest IT company), Samsung Heavy Industries (2nd largest shipbuilder), Samsung Engineering (13th largest construction company), Samsung Life Insurance (14th largest insurance company), and Cheil Worldwide (15th-largest advertsing agency).

Samsung Electronics, the one relevant here, is listed on the Korean stock exchange so must have shares to trade. As such the company's duty is to maximise profit for its shareholders, so it will do whatever it sees as necessary to achieve that. Knox may be an inconvenience to some users, but that pales into insignificance against the corporate/government markets it opens up. Similarly with region-locking to stem the 'grey market' trade, which undermines their reseller network and ultimately hits their bottom line.

I do not want them to delute the galaxy line with 20 different variations. I like them because of the removable battery and and SD slot. I have the gs3 and so far I still like it. Waiting on the gs5, but not liking that new title looking ui so far.:stupido3:

I believe that LG and Motorola will gain a large portion of the Market in the next 18 months.

I believe that Samsung feels like they can do no wrong and there loyal "fanbase" will continue to buy whatever they make.

Too late, here in the UK we currently have:

    Galaxy Y
    Galaxy Ace
    Galaxy Ace 2
    Galaxy Fame
    Galaxy Young
    Galaxy Ace 3
    Galaxy S3
    Galaxy S3 Mini
    Galaxy S4
    Galaxy S4 Mini
Galaxy Note 3 (two 'brands' for the price of one!)

All are still on sale in retail stores, despite obvious duplication/overlap.

They've played a clever game. The 'Galaxy" brand has become aspirational thanks to heavy marketing and expensive advertising.

Sure Sammy has to get max profits

But I think they think they can do no wrong now...

The market is very demanding and.. And it will sail away quickly if you push too much

Yes.. They gave G2 to develop..That was when they were hungry.
But the G5 is around the corner.. And how locked up will it be?
Like I said.. They have changed their way of thinking

I think times have changed. With the apparent country blacklisting stuff, like if I legitimately bought a Samsung in the UK, activated it there, but then subsequently found it bricked in China....that's just not good enough.
