I have created a 2 part complete video walkthrough of how to root the official Sprint Samsung Moment 2.1 Firmware.

*If for some reason youtube request that I remove the audio portion of the video don’t worry I can re edit the video’s with backup music and or post them on my own website.* Let me know what you all think & comments are welcomed.

I have no idea why my post is listing the videos multiple times when I rechecked my original post. And posted the links once.

No prob anytime any idea why is showing multiple times? It's only 2 video links but the post is making them out to look like it's 4 of them.

I'm thinking of jumping in to the rooting game. I just upgraded to the official 2.1 (DE03) so I think I completed all the steps covered in the first video. I think I should be able to download that first file and then pick things up at video 2. However, every other thread I've read regarding rooting says to use the CL14 updater. Is it correct that the method in this thread is using the newer DE03 updater? I also read somewhere on SDX that there is a .dll file you need to replace to get the DE03 updater to work for rooting, etc. Is this necessary for this method?

Matt,

Bud all the files you need are provided in the link and I show you on the video where to get it (From my Site) that's why I called it roopack.zip
Yes use the new installer then apply the patch included in the rootpack.zip as illustrated in the video watch both parts 1 & 2 and you will see.The patch will modify the files on the new 2.1 update so you can apply the files to your phone. This is why I made the tutorials so it's a complete step process but it seems I haven't managed to get everyones attention:p just kidding watch the videos that's all.

Ok i understand this is to root your phone but like...is this itself a rom? or does rooting your phone just allow you to install custom roms?

plus following the instructions and after successfully rooting my phone what would be the immediate benefits? plz help me clear up my confusion and ty in advance

Tenica, ty for the walkthrough. I made it to the paste joeykrim-SDX-a2.1-root-v7 in SD card. Phone still plugged in from SW update; Computer; click on removeable disk F:

I keep getting: Please insert a disk into removeable disk F:

Is it safe to unplug and plug back in? Stuck in the middle, please advise.

I have a really stupid question. I want to root my wife's phone so I can remove some of the bloatware, I have already done the sprint update from the first video last week. Can I just start with the rooting and if so will it still wipe the phone? I know I rooted my Hero without wiping that, so I assume that since I already have the update at the start of the video I can move on to the next step. The main question is will that process cause a total wipe?

I guess I'm exceptionally dumb or not-observant..

But, my Moment came with 2.1 already installed. Do I need to do the first part where I update 2.1, or can I just do the 2nd part where I do the patch and then root it?

It just doesn't seem clear to me.

Head over to sdx-developers.com their tutorials are much MORE in-depth than this vid

Well, I followed through both videos, followed the instructions carefully.

At the end, when I press vol down, camera and exit, nothing happens.

No menu, nothing.

It stays on the main menu screen, eventually asks me if I want silent, airplane or to shut down.

What can I look for to see what went wrong?

Okay, kept trying, finally got it to work. Still need to install Live Wallpapers, but that's okay for now.

Thanks a LOT. seems to be working very well (will hopefully help with the Airplane mode bug, too...)

So what is the trick to the last past, holding down volume down, end call and make call. It refuses to reboot into that system screen.

doh I see now, might want add to power the phone off before doing that step, it only says to unplug the phone. lol

Thanks for the tutorial - it'll help me when it's time for me to try it!

On another note - what screen capture software did you use? Was it Camstudio or something else? Looked really good from a video point of view.

Now you need to use a program like Connectbot to allow you to go into a command line and delete them. It will be like working in a DOS window in Windows.

I don't have the commands readily available, but there are a few you need to set the read/write options for the directory, then for backing up the files before deleting, then setting the permissions back. If you are not real comfortable in command line a better option is Root Explorer.

It works as easily as any file manager, such as Astro, just click and delete, though it's like $3-4.

hey so it turns out that live chat is amazing! hehe so i went on there and received some great help about this problem.
What i needed to do after i got the # was enter another couple of commands. I dont remember what they are but they worked. (sorry for not taking notes for yals) anyways it had something to do with setting the new root folder and then i had access to remove applications.
Thanks for the video and forum creators thanks for the live chat feature :)
