My note 2 crashed and I manage to re-install Android 4.4.2 , baseband version N7100XXUFND3. I know its an old version, but its all I could find.

The problem I have is that the phone will not upgrade to a newer version like 5.0 or 5.1. Its says there are updates but for some reason it wont allow me to update the version of android I have. I have tried re-installing through Kies, but its says the version of my operating system can not be upgraded.

Your help, guidance, assistance and advise would be very much appreciated.

Oh yeah, I'm a novice to all this

The Note II never received updates beyond 4.4. Some versions received 4.4.4, but no 5.0 or 5.1. So you won't be getting that unless you root and flash unofficial custom ROMs.

    Welcome to AF @Fada STarky!
If you want to get to the latest updates ( which @chanchan05 indicated may be limited without root), you can always flash them manually from sammobile.com via a computer program called ODIN :)
Be sure you flash the correct version for you make/model/country/carrier ;)
Also, I've added some info to your thread title to attract more attention.
