    Next to you
    Stop pressing the power button.

    Nah, just kidding :D
What model and carrier? How old is the device and/or battery? What version of Android are you on? Does this happen when using a certain app, or doing something in particular? Has the device taken an update lately? What have you done to try and fix it, if anything yet? Can the device stay on at all and if so, how long?

The more info you provide, the better we can try to help ;)

Power button is stuck, alcohol and cotton swab should do it if not, this is not my technique but I heard its been successful;moderately face the power button down and tap against a table, but of course not so hard to damage it,and if that fails is it in a phone case, try removing it from the case, sometimes are tight fit it squeezes the power button, and last but not least the Samsung Galaxy avant sometimes switches off and on when plugged into the charger for some odd unknown reason.hope one of these answers was helpful.
    Good health & Good luck!
