Samsung Rooting Query

Hi there, welcome to the Android forums. Below is a couple threads that explain rooting and the benefits.

http://androidforums.com/epic-4g-al...oting-samsung-epic-4g-what-you-need-know.html

http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/129648-quick-intro-rooting-those-new-rooting.html

These are from the "Epic 4G" and "Evo 4G" forums, but the general stuff is the same for rooting phones.

A couple of cons off the top of my head:

1) It voids your warranty

2) You wont get over the air updates, and would have to take some manual steps to update to newer versions of Android.... but that can be viewed as a pro by some people.

Hi Sean, welcome to the forums.

There are many reasons why people root their phones including but not limited to removing carrier bloatware, updating to a newer version of Android not provided by the carrier, flash custom roms and making complete backup images.

The danger is minimal, but with root access you can mess up your phone to the point of needing to restore it to stock just to get it to work again.

My question to you is what specifically do you want to do that requires root?
