To start off this is not confirmed that it would work. This is why I'm posting to seek assistance in the correct answer.

Ok I am in the middle of a new contract because I bought the hero before the Evo was all rumor. So I am about 4 to 6 months in my contract.

    Early Termination Fee

According to this I would have to pay around $200 to $180 to get out of my contract. Some of you may even have to pay less...

So would there be any way I could pay the $190 to get rid of the contract and keep my line open then giving me the phone at full upgrade price of $200

This way I would only pay around $390 to $400 plus tax instead of 450 plus tax? Because honestly tax will add about 20 to 30 to the price which the total savings could help buy all the accessories I want to get. Say case, screen protect, and hdmi cable....

Thanks for the help in advance

This is what I did last time while under contract. I bought my Hero and placed it on a new line, went home and called customer service and had them switch the Hero to my old line. I then called in the next day to cancel my new line. They had me return my old phone. So, in essence I bought the Hero for the new contract price.

you can't pay to get out of your contract and keep your line open. Once you cancel, you will lose your number...i think there is a law where they have to keep the number thirty days, but keep in mind that you can't turn around and open a new account and get a discount. There is a 90 period that applies. Sprint is not stupid and they have closed that back door a long time ago.

I remember when I wanted out of my nextel account and the rep felt bad and told me a trick to get out. This doesn't work anymore but back in the day you could swap to sprint and buy a new phone and then return it within 30 days and cancel and you would be treated like a new customer and you get no cancellation fee.

I wonder if you can pay a 3rd party company around $15 to port your number out, then open a line as a new customer, and port the number back in? I haven't tried it, but there are a number of websites out there that offer it.

If you don't care about your number you can open a family plan and do this. One of the many reasons I love google voice

You can always get a prepaid line for like 20 bucks and port your number there; when you finish what you want to do, port it back to the new line.

Will Sprint not let you extend from X date and pay a new contract fee anymore? A few months ago, my blackberry got water damage. I went to a Sprint store hoping to find a laid-back rep who would just swap me out for a refurb for free. The guy I spoke to ended up being really cool and trying to help me out. I ended up not taking him up, but he originally said I could buy a new Tour for the new contract price, and I wouldn't have to wait for the insurance company to send me a replacement. When I told him I didn't want to move my contract date, he gave me a nudge and a wink and said he could do it all without even affecting my contract date.

I am not due for a new phone until July 12 (Tour release date in 09), but I was figuring I could call and have them extend me from June 4.

Alot of times, there are special rules that certain reps know that can help you do exactly what you're saying (same goes for the retention reps). It's definitely a YMMV transaction. Sometimes the guys give you a wink/nudge and then screw you later and you're stuck trying to straighten it out on your own.

The comment prompted me to call Sprint to verify my date and to see if I could get someone to just tell me that they would extend me from June 4 with a new contract price. The woman I spoke to told me I'm due for an upgrade now. She actually tried to talk me into holding onto the Tour for three more weeks before upgrading to an Evo. I'm not sure I believe her. I know for a fact that I bought the Tour on July 12, and I am a premier customer, so that should put me at... July 12.

Oh well, I'll probably just keep calling come June 4th until I get someone who will take care of me. I agree that there are those people out there with the codes and the right attitude.
