Saving a photo received in messenger

How do I save a photo sent to me in a text? On my Moto G3 I would just hold my finger on the photo and an option would come up to save to phone. Now that there's no Gallery for it to go to, I can archive it but it archives the whole message.

Messenger as in Facebook, or the texting app?
Have you tried installing Textra?

I meant the texting app. They seem to claim that all you need is Google photos but I still don't get how to save the picture. I did download QuickPic and that works but I just thought I was missing something simple. Thanks

The steps are a little different for each texting app, but you shouldn't need another app just to save a picture.

A common way is to tap and hold on the pic to select it, then use the menu that appears to save it.
