Saw the android light and came out of the vast darkness of the iphone

Hey my name is Dave and i'm new member here as you all can obviously tell haha! i'm on the rogers network and just picked up a htc legend from virgin.

i know this is the intro section but i have 2 questions i need answered so if i could get some help that'd be awesome!

1: aside from unlock code is there any other way to unlock the legend, and..
2: if i do get it unlocked will i have all the original capabilities of the phone including 3g speeds, gps etc etc....
