Looking for a scheduled reboot app with a non rooted phone android 2.1.

I noticed that my free memory goes from around 210s to 130s in a day even with ATK running. Don't know where the memory is leaking but maybe someone can fill me in. Anyway with a reboot it jumps right back up to the 210s even though all the apps are running in ATK.

    Thanks!

No apps like this. Well, at least not that I've come across.

Certainly not a pro about this, but rebooting is not actually solving the problem. Android platform is made to handle multi-tasking and will close apps on its own to recover memory if needed. Android doesn't have to be rebooted constantly to work well.

If you are leaking memory, it may be due to an app you installed. As such it would probably be a better idea for you to uninstall apps one at a time and test to see if that app is the culprit. If you remember when you started leaking memory you could start from around that point in the timeline of your apps and work from there.

I have the exact same issue. Do you have any of these apps installed?

    3banana

    Air Control
    AL Notepad
    Aldiko
    Amazon MP3
    AndFTP
    AppBrain
    Astrid
    Astro
    Barcode Scanner
    BeebPlayer
    BetterCut
    BlockedStone

    Dictionary
    Ebuddy
    Facebook
    Flight Director
    Floating Image
    Grid Droid
    Jewellust
    K-9 Mail
    Papastacker
    Phit Droid 3rd Ed
    PicSay Pro
    Pobs
    Puzzle Attack

    Robo Defense
    Seesmic
    Shazam
    Shot 2nd Ed
    Simply Draw

I'm hoping I can get to this point fairly rapidly because I need to reboot my Desire every day - the GPRS just hangs, even if I'm running a minimal application set, i.e. the stock apps that comes with HTC's implementation of Android.

If anyone knows of an app where you can perform a scheduled restart, e.g. 2am, it would be very helpful :)

I've just got into the habit of re-booting every morning. Alarm goes off, dismiss, power off, power on. Tend to do it at lunch time as well.

I'm not having a problem on my MyTouch, I use Automatic Task Killer, no memory leaks.

But I would also like an app for this.

This shouldn't be necessary with Android like it is with BlackBerry. I think one of your apps has the problem, and you should just get rid of that app.

What's the harm in doing it though? Since where is it a policy that "no apps that aren't needed". There are fart sound applications. I can't think of why there isn't a reboot app though- especially one with lets you schedule reboots

I agree, i think the "Android doesn't NEED to *insert activity here*" is a deflective, cop-out response. If you want your phone to think for you, buy an iphone. I don't care what android doesnt need to do, it's going to do what i WANT it to do, because i paid $500 for my phone. If I mess something up, thats my problem. Thats the beauty of having an open-source OS, and rooting makes it that much better.

there should be an app for this, theres no reason not to have one......

I'm fully aware and it was the first thing I looked at. It says "place reboot statement in reboot.txt". I am not familiar working with scripts, so something that may seem like a simple instruction to you would not be second nature to me. If you could elaborate for me that would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

I have another thread trying to get people interested in modifying the power button functions. One of the things I would love to see is a reboot option in the power button drop down menu. I'm really surprised that this hasn't been done already.

The reboot.txt additionally already has some defaults setup that will work just fine. You don't need to edit the reboot.txt at all.

This is available in every custom ROM I've tried if you are interested in rooting.

Thanks for the explanation, i got it and it works perfectly. Sorry if it came off as though i was lazy and couldnt read directions, but scripts are one of those things i never really understood, so when i even see the word i get really cautious and like to verify things befroe doing them. thanks again

so i stopped using this, only because at the time i have the reboot scheduled to take place my phone is plugged in to the charger (i have it set to reboot a half hour before i wake up), and it seems like it does not fully reboot when its plugged in, it just turns off. but when its not on the charger it reboots fine. I assume there is no workaround to this issue, but do you know what causes it?
