So I too am facing a G1 whose screen goes blank. If I start it up, it *might* decide to show the G1 screen and then it will go blank (nothing on the screen but the backlit is still on). No button I press brings it out of that status. Other times it just stays on the G1 screen but that is not as common.
Pulling battery out only turns it off (stops backlit from sucking battery dry). I still have nothing on the screen.
Doing a hard reset has become a bit of a challenge. Yes, I can get it to the triangle screen, but by the time I am about to press ALT-W, screen blanks out. I do not know if phone is still running (doing something/will pay attention at me) or it is just frozen there.
What else can I try?
