I have a Droid that has been sitting in a drawer without its battery for several months. After pulling it from the drawer, I put a brand new battery in it. This battery is fine as it was powering my other Droid without any trouble.

When I press the power button, the 4 soft buttons at the bottom of the Droid light up, but the screen is still black. At first, I thought it was a dead screen, BUT if you look very carefully, you can see the Android symbol and the hand sweeping over to click on it. This is the screen you'd see after a factory reset. The Droid is working. The Droid's brightness is near black.

How can I adjust the brightness when I can't see the screen? The Droid wants me to set up as a new device, so I can't just touch settings and fumble my way to the settings screen.

Touch the four corners of the screen (top left, top right, bottom right above the button, bottom left above the button) and you will bypass the activation screens. You then should be able to get to settings.

Nice. Any idea how to get to settings - display when you can't really see?

Or better yet, any idea how to factory reset without touching anything on the device?

I'll have to get home and do it on my OG so I don't lead you astray. Look for more from me around 5:30 - 6:00 PM EST.

ironically, I had a similar problem although reversed. Couldn't see my screen at all, but I could see the backlight. In the drawer for 6 months, hit the power and all was well again:thinking:. I spent three days answering phone calls by muscle memory waiting for the replacement.:D

    OK, here we go.

Unlock the phone and click Menu

Display is about 1/2 finger width from the center of the phone down and brightness is the top option under that menu. The slider appears to be just below the midpoint of the screen.

    I hope this helps.

THANKS! Unfortunately, I may have a real issue as I adjusted the brightness to the highest level after disabling the auto brightness. Nothing changed :(

I bound something:D. Check the thread linked below as it has two solutions. Post #6 is the brute force and Post #9 is a little more technical. Believe it or not, they both address the probable cause of this, a loose internal connection.

    I hope this helps.
