I have a problem with a new SD card for my Huawei Y5 II (Android v. 5.1.).

The problem appeared to have started after I switched the default storage location from Phone storage to SD card.
Since then, whenever I take a picture/shoot a video with my phone camera, as it gets saved to SD card, there is no thumbnail being generated to associate with it.
Therefore, I can't view any of the photos that I make.

    Example:
I tap in the Files app and try to open the last photo I took which was saved to DCIM/Camera folder on my SD card. Instead of the photo, my phone screen displays a dark grey background with text "No thumbnail". When I click on the photo details, I see that it has "image/jpeg" format, 2.84 Mb file size, and "Unknown" image resolution.

This problem does not occur if I switch back to default storage option (from SD card to Phone storage).
All the pictures/videos that are saved directly onto the phone memory are displayed correctly.
Only photos/videos that are being saved on SD card seem to be affected by this issue.

I've searched all over the internet for a solution to this issue, tried cleaning the Media Storage app data & cache, rebooting device many times, taking out/inserting the SD card back to my phone, checking if the DCIM/Camera folder has .nomedia hidden file (it doesn't; the only hidden file in it is .camera).

Last thing I tried yesterday was:
copying the affected photos from SD card to a local folder on my laptop -> taking out the SD card from my phone -> connecting the phone via USB to my laptop -> dropping the photos from laptop folder to my phone's memory DCIM folder -> clearing the Media Storage & Gallery app data & cache.
I was hoping that the phone would re-generate the missing thumbnails then, but it didn't work.

    Did anyone have similar issue?

    Good Day,

I also have Huawei Y5 II, just purchased last January. In the past few days I encountered exactly the same problem that you had, I tried everything, reboot, removing the SD card, and in the end I almost throw my phone. I even tried to clear my media storage without thinking that I didn't back up all my files,I was very frustrated. But I found out there is this very simple solution, I tried to go to SETTINGS, I click STORAGE and scroll down to bottom, my default location was set to INTERNAL STORAGE, this curious me, I change from internal to SD Card. after that the phone asks for RESTART. and when it restarted, I went to my GALLERY, you won't believe but all my photos and vids has been retrieved! I also can takes pics with my Camera.the "NO THUMBNAIL" is gone, everyhting's normal now. Hope this solution will help you. just don'tget frustrated the way I did okay?
