    Hello!

SD Card in my phone (GT540 upgraded to 2.1) doesn't work properly lately. For example, when I'm trying to put music on it from my computer it says "the directory cannot be created". In the same way when I want to create a logbook in OnTrack application it says the same thing. It seems like the card is locked somehow and I can't access it. It wasn't like that before 2 months when I bought the phone and in the meantime I didn't do anything to the phone what could cause problems.

Does anybody know what could be the solution? Thanks!

If you can't write to the card, but you can read from it, back up your files, and format it.

Upon installing the USB drivers for my new GT540 (unlocked, updated to 2.1) I can see the device & card in Windows Explorer, but they won't open to see content. I'm using the 2GB SD card that came with the phone and I am assuming it came preformatted, is this correct?

Also, while I was able to install the "updater" software (for going from V1.6 to 2.1) I have been unable to register my phone with LG in order to install the "LG Tool" (or whatever it is called), because the LG websites seem to only serve phone models associated with service providers. Since I am a very light cell phone user, instead of costly phone-plans I use pre-paid GSM cards wherever I travel, in the US I use AT&T's Prepaid cell phone, GoPhone

Yes, if you have an adapter or any OTHER device that uses microSD, insert the card there, and back up.

Maybe be a silly answer but the SD might be locked... Look at the side of the SD for the lock...

The GT540 uses a MiniSD card, not a normal SD card. MiniSD cards don't have a lock switch.

Thanks! With Astro File Manager (free) I can now see the (mini) SD card's content, move files, backup my apps, etc. Which PC Suite do you use that is better than LG's? (I'm "all thumbs" and really need to manage my contacts, appointments, etc. via the PC's keyboard.)

Well i, personally don't use any, i sync my contacts with my Gmail Account.
and leave the appointments, mails, etc on the phone.

MOBILedit!, seems to be a good alternative.

Thanks! MobilEdit! gets rave reviews from PC World. Unfortunately after all my downloading and attempts to install it turns out that the LG GT540 is NOT supported by MobilEdit! (Wrote to them requesting they incorporate it, but I can't imagine that would happen anytime soon.)

For my simple needs the LG PC Suite would likely sufice,, however I can't find the download at any website I recognize (e.g. CNet.com), any suggestions?

UPDATE - I found the LG link for their PC Suite IV at http://androidforums.com/lg-optimus-gt540/146650-lg-air-sync-pc-suite-iv-software.html (LG Air Sync). That been said, what a piece of crap that is! If I'm missing something someone please correct me. This App seems entirely dedicated syncing with MS Outlook... What a waste. I was naively hoping for something that from my PC I could manage my contacts/appointments, upload/download photos, music, etc. (I'm a newbie with "smart phones", totally frustrated and will highly appreciate any suggestions ) - Thanks

SECOND UPDATE - Turns out that the PC Suite IV can transfer photos, video & music to-from phone/PC, BUT for contacts/calendar it only syncs with MS Outlook (what a dumb move for LG). The good news is that MobilEdid DOES work on the GT540, even though it is not listed among their supported phones. See comments below for further info.

PS- Synchronizing via GMail doesn't work for me because I have too many contacts that I would never call on my cell phone, thus my contacts on the phone would get unnecessarily cluttered.

Well in their site they say, it supports iOS, Android, Windows, etc. what a shame that is.

Yep PC Suite is just the worst piece of software i have ever used, hehe told you i hate it.

Well to Transfer files to you phone simply put it in mass storage mode, Settings>SD card & storage.

To back up Contacts there must be an app in the Market to do that.

Muchas gracias! I just posted a second update on my comment above, it turns out that Suite IV can transfer photos/music/video to-from PC BUT contacts/calendar only work with MS Outlook - what a dumb move for LG.

The good news is that MobilEdit! does indeed work with on the GT540, even though it is not listed in their 'supported phones' list. First impressions are great. For instance, on the SD card I placed a "My Files" folder, downloaded an .rtf file of info and it readily opened with Astro File Manager. Once I get a bit more familiar with it I'm planning to buy their $25 software that supports 2 phones; it includes backing up the entire phone on the Internet and (as far as I can tell) without a monthly fee. Among other features, this would allow you entirely reset everything the same on a new Android phone, etc.

Important phone settings details for installing MobilEdit!:

    - Mass data storage needs to be OFF (though it needs to be ON for reading the mini SD card on a card reader).

    - Need to accept non-market applications (at least to do the installation, but I'm not sure that is required for everyday use).

Next I'll start a new thread looking for the Codec necessary for opening GT540 video files with Windows Media Player.

    Cheers!

PS for YouTo_01 - Hola Paisano, Hasta ahorita me vine a dar cuenta que estas en Mexico, te saluda un Regiomontano que vive en Boston Massachusetts - mil gracias por toda tu ayuda! Tomas

YouTo_01, thanks for suggesting the QQplayer App for viewing .3g video files (the video format that results when taking video with the LG540). Having tried it turns out I didn't need it because with Astro File Manager the .3g videos open w/o problems on the cell phone. My problem was how to view the .3g videos using Windows Media Player (format supported but Codec missing). This was easily solved by installing "Free 3GP Video Converter" on my PC (Free 3GP Video Converter - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com). Note: I like downloading from CNet because their offerings have been tested to be bug-free.

Details when using the 3GP Converter: Not much in the way of instructions... but simply set the output to MP4 (or AVI), identify the file to be converted and define your source/output folders - works great.

While writing this I wondered if there may be a camera setting that could avoid this conversion step by recording directly in the video format of choice. Suggestions anyone?

-- I'll come back to report on MobilEdit! once I try their $25 software for interconnecting phone-to-PC.
