Hey guys, fortunately and unfortunately, this is the first time I've had an issue with my optimus elite. I've had this phone for over two months now, and after leaving it to charge last night, I woke up to an error message saying that the SD card was removed before it was unmounted. I opened the phone up and the SD card was in there, but the slot was hot to the touch. Any ideas on what caused it/what I can do to fix it? Thanks guys!

I'm going to guess it was a 32GB SD Card? If it was - and even if it wasn't - the phone may have (literally) burnt it. I had this happen to me way back when I was on the stock ROM, before I ever learned of rooting - I had the same error message saying that it was removed before it was unmounted, and the slot was burning hot to the touch (but the rest of the phone, surprisingly, was cold). The card is more than likely unuseable - and unfortunately I don't know what causes this to happen, but it did happen to me once in my first month of ownership, and the phone had literally burnt the card to the point where the card was nonfunctional.

it was only a 2GB thank goodness. I haven't checked the SD on my computer yet, but I'm pretty sure that you're right. Do you think switching roms would prevent the phone from doing this again?

Edit: yep, the card is torched.

    Sorry to hear that :p

I can't say for sure whether or not switching ROMs would fix the issue (though switching ROMs couldn't hurt), but I never had the issue again with that OE, or the replacement OE after that one bricked. I think it may just be a hardware defect in a few bad batches or something.

Just switched back to Sleipnir, hopefully nothing else happens. Thanks a million for your help!

I have a 32GB Sd card should I not keep it in my phone because of this or is it rare for this to happen. Btw Im on Sleipnir

Given that this happened to Sharkhunter45 on a 2GB card, whereas I had a 32GB card, I would say that it doesn't matter what the card is. My best guess is that this is a hardware defect in some elites from a bad batch. I would thus venture to say that it could happen at any time if you've got a bad elite, but if you've had it for 3 months or so with an SD card in for more than half of that time, I would say you're alright. Of course, this is all guesswork, but this is not software related.

There should be an app that you can download and configure to what temperature you want that automatically turns off your phone if it goes past that temperature for too long after being notified. I don't remember the name of the app but a year or two ago it used to be one of the Featured ones on the Market haha.

One thing y'all have overlooked is the SD card itself, and I would put my money on that being the problem more so than the phone. the phone could potentially overpower the card, which would literally burn the coating on the circuit board inside the card; it easier though for there to be a tiny manufacturers defect that caused a short circuit or some other shenanigans that only became apparent after something else happened.

I've not experienced the overheating sd card burning up, but I redeem recently had my 16gb card go all corrupt and I had to reformat it. I'm guessing it's going to be a regular thing...
Keeping a backup on my hard drive really gets me but it's better than no card at all

  12. Its caused by a miscalibrated battery believe it or not. The heat sensor is right by the battery and leaving it plugged in, running in lets say a bad data area or just forgot to force close some apps caused you're phone to go commando. See it being pluged in with the heat sensor over reacting could cause it to not turn off like it should of and as a safety feature in the phone it unmounted you're sd card. This phone has many bugs out the box. Hell turn you're phone off while on the charger let the lg logo pop up, unplug you're battery charger and you're phone will reboot. I think this 2.3.7 was built on a 2.2.2 firmware cause I've screwed around with the boot animation and the default is a stock blue boot that just shows android. Just like the optimus v did. Wouldn't suprise me a bit if the took the v and screwed it up so badly so they made this phone. Then invested in the HTC phones to cover it up. Using old ass leftovers to sell and make money. Even the v had it happen when they changed out its screen driver and bricked a shit load of phones in the process cause they suck.
