My gf has a Sony Eric. Experia Ray (2.3.4). Is there a way to set the Security Lock Timer. On my defy (2.2.2) there is an option in SETTINGS / LOCATION & SECURITY / SECURITY LOCK TIMER. But I can't find it anywhere on the Ray.

Setting the screen timeout will probably do what you want if you already have a password or pattern lock setup. The screen will turn off at your predetermined timeout and lock. Just enter your password to unlock.
Hope this is what you were looking for.

If your talking about how long until the screen locks. This is based on the 'Display Timeout" option found:

Main Menu > Settings > Display > Screen Timeout.

However please be aware that editing this will likely have a negative impact on the battery life of the phone.

No, you have screen timeouts and security timeouts. One kills the screen, so you may have to slide to unlock. The other requires a pin/pattern after an extended time. Or is this not avail on Xperia?

Sorry for the confusion, these settings are one and the same on this model. As soon as the phone goes into standby the lock is required and these can be set to differing times.

This are not the same. You got the security timeout settings under security by activating pin or password request. The display timeout you can find at the display settings.

Sam-SonyXperia is correct. The lockscreen timeout is the same as the screen timeout. While the screen timeout is changed under > Settings > Display > Screen timeout.
The lockscreen is changed under > Settings > Location & security. There is no separate timeout setting for it.

That's not very good. Is there anyway to simulate two separate timeouts so that the screen can effectively be turned off after 30 seconds, but not locked for 5 minutes for example?

Either stock or via apps? My gf uses her phone alot for recipes and it's a pain in kitchen to have to keep entering the passcode and the battery dies if the screen lock is set for 10 min+.

What timer widget and how does that turn the screen off after 30 seconds, but not lock the screen till 5 min has elapsed?

    the normal timer widget.
go to any blank screen out of the 5 available home screens and long touch to get the choices menu wherein u can select widgets. scroll down and u will reach Timer widget. touch that and a nifty timer gets installed. its simple to operate

now as far as lock screen is concerned just go to settings>> security and disable the Screen lock

to dim the screen after 30 seconds again go to settings >> display and set the Sleep time to 30 secs

now come back to the home screen where u installed the timer widget and set it for 5 mins

    happy cooking!!
