ok, i was able to downgrade back to froyo, root, get s-off and flash clockworkmod recovery, so now its time to find the right custom rom.

i really want one with sense 3.0, got a mate who has it on this htc sensation and it looks fantastic. from the list on Desire HD Index - Everything Desire HD is Here! [Updated June 12th!!] - xda-developers, i can see that 3 roms have sense 3.0, [U]RCMix3D Evolutionary Sense------------------>[1.5]
    [U]Virtuous Unity------------------------------>[1.0.0]
    [U]True Sense i00 Rom------------------------------>[5.5]

i wanted to go for leedroid because it has sense but im assuming that its still on sense 2, can anyone confirm this?

also, does anyone have any experience with any of the above roms? or any others which have sense 3?

    thanks

LeeDroid is good, with excellent support (the dev never sleeps by the sounds of things). If you want the Sense 3.0 stuff, flash his ROM from here. Once installed, reboot back into clockwork, then install one of the sense 3.0 mods in his post the same way you installed the ROM.

I have not used Leedroid, but I believe that it is possible to put parts of Sense 3.0 on it (as it is with ARHD) - don't know whether it's possible to have full Sense 3.0 on there though!

Didn't know if it was full sense 3.0 or just parts but, given the reports of Lee's ability to work non-stop, it wouldn't surprise me if it was all on there eventually! :)

Aye, sorry. It's just parts of Sense 3.0 at the moment, but yeah, he's at it constantly....

Just flash any rom and then flash the Sense 3.0 all in one pack if you cant find a rom you like with it built in.

Yeah... like I said, don't think it'd be long before LeeDroid takes over the world at the rate he seems to work! :)

Hadn't thought of that... should the all in one pack work on any Sense based ROM then?

You can have elements of Sense 3.0 on LeeDroid or, alternatively you can try to flash the Sense 3.0 all in one on to LeeDroid (as per the few posts above).

EDIT - it may be worth asking Lee is it would cause any problems/if it is posible to put the 3.0 all in one pack on to his ROM if you're worried about it. By all accounts the guy never sleeps!

had a look at the list, might go for either the sense 3 pack for just some addons but i dont wanna try and do too much at once seeing as its only been a day since ive downgraded+got root etc.

at least for now getting lee's rom will be a step in the right direction. does anyone have any good tutorials on installing custom roms? ive read that you have to wipe all of your data (assuming this is done in recovery), and also that i should format it to EXT4? (which i have no idea how to do) and also install lee's kernel (which i have no idea how to do lol)

    thanks

Think that El P covers installing custom ROM's in his thread herer - http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-all-things-root/354749-how-root-install-custom-rom-desire-hd.html

Wiping data/clearing cache/etc can all be done from within CWM (which you get through ROM manager)... usually on each ROM dev's page there is a WIKI on how to flash their ROM/Radio/Kernel - I would have thought there would be on Lee's page!! :)

found this in the release post for leedroid:

    1. Drop LeeDrOiD_HD_V3.0.X.zip on you SD card
    2. Check the MD5# matches the one in post 1#
    3. Ensure you have more than 40% Charge & Unplug your DHD.
    4. Boot into recovery (either via rom manager or by powering up with the vol- button held)
    5. Select "backup&restore" then backup your existing ROM. (usually referred to as a "Nandroid" backup)
    6. If you want a clean install, scroll to "wipe data/factory reset" (this step is recommended but not always required)
    7. Select flash zip from SD card
    8. Select the LeeDrOiD_HD_V3.0.X.zip
    9. Wait for the flashing process to complete and reboot
This seems fairly straight forward, but there's no detaills on how to flash his kernel.
i found a great clockworkmod guide from a link in the post by el presidente: What Is ClockworkMod Recovery And How To Use It On Android [Complete Guide]
this covers the ins and outs of clockworkmod recovery, and i think im right in assuming i can flash the kernel in the same way as the rom?

    also:
    - how do i format the partition to ext4? and is this necessary?
    - when do i do the kernel? before/after the rom?

    thanks

I am not 100% sure - I think that the Kernel is done as part of the ROM... you may want to wait for someone else to post on this subject (Xyro/El P are usually one of the first to do so).

As for EXT4 - I think that this is all handelled by CWM when it is doing a full wipe.

Full wipe/factory reset is ALWAYS recomended when flashign a different ROM (e.g. going from stock to custom, going from CM7 to LeeDroid), whereas, usually, going from LeeDroid X.X.1 to LeeDroid X.X.2, you can usually just flash over the top (devs usually say if you require a full wipe or if you can flash over the top, which is when you are usually just adding a patch for something that was causing problems)

The kernel is included in the ROM so it's all good.

The ROM will flash the relevant partitions as EXT4, but it will keep the data partition as EXT3. You flash the patch to format data as EXT4, then flash his ROM.

It's not 100% mandatory, but recommended. I didn't do it, and I haven't noticed any performance degradation, but if it's your first flash, then there's no harm in using the EXT4 wipe.

    Edit - Sniped by D-U-R-X.

ok im almost there... (yes, i know im slow lol)
    so i:
    - drop leedroid rom onto the sd card
    - boot into recovery
    - backup the current rom
    - wipe data
    - go to flash zip from sd card
    - pick the ext4 patch
    - reboot (into recovery)
    - go to flash zip from sd card
    - pick leedroid rom
    - reboot

    done.

doesnt wiping the data delete the rom i would have just put ontn the sd card?.. apart from that if everything is in the right order i think im good to go :D

    thanks

Wiping the data does delete, but you should be able to do a backup from Clockwork, so that if anything goes wrong, you can flash back to the same as you had before wiping!

As D-U-R-X says just make sure you make a back up just in case anything goes wrong :)

It does, that's why you do it before hand. It won't touch the SD Card though.

The wipe is only really relevant to the data partition though as system and cache are done by the ROM.

ive already done the backup through cwm recovery and copied it onto my laptop. so the wipe doesnt delete the rom zipped file i put in the root, just system data. cool, think im good to go, everything seems fairly straight forward, i just work better with lists :D

    cheers

Nope, it doesn't touch the SD Card at all, it's the internal memory on the phone it's formatting with.

successfully flashed phone with leedroid. that bit was actually the least painful bit out of everything, love how simple clockworkmod recovery is to use.
also did the ext4 thing and saw it formatting to ext4 when the rom was being installed - no idea what the difference is but if mr lee thinks its best then who am i to say otherwise lol.

going on holiday for a week so ill defo have this rom as it is until then, might look to the addons after ive had a good feel for how this behaves.

out of everything, i love the additions to the quick settings - brightness was something i wished htc thought to put into their release of gingerbread.

thanks again to all, im sure ill be back with more questions in the near future :)
