Serious Hero Problems

Basically, I bought a rooted Hero on eBay and it has some big problems. I don't know much about Android phones, so please keep it simple.

The phone brings up an error when turned on. it
says, "The application OMADM (process
com.htc.android.omadm) has stopped unexpedly."

And, I can't get my computers to recognize the phone. I tried installing drivers from the internet, but they still didn't work. I also downloaded HTC Sync. I can't go into any menus on the phone that would help with this process.

So, what should I do?

EDIT: Actually, what happens if you turn off the phone and then hold Home + Power until a menu appears? Do you get something about Amon Ra? That way we know just what the seller meant by rooted.

What version of windows is your PC running? Windows 7 seems to give people a lot of trouble with HTC Sync.

(Oh, and if you're using a Hero that looks like this, please say).
