One day, my POP3 CHARTER email just seemed to stop working. The messages seemed to suggest Incorrect Account Name or Password, although it had worked perfectly for some time and nothing had changed.

The solution that seemed to work, was to reconfigure the incoming as IMAP.

Charter had some suggestions, albeit specifically for the Blackberry Storm.

Mobile Email Settings - Charter Communications

In any case; the general information is correct. Set the account up as IMAP. Create a new account and use the following inputs.

<< Use your full account name when setting up your account, e.g. MyName@charter.net>>

    • Email server: mobile.charter.net
    • Port: 993
    • SSL: Verify that the SSL box is checked.
    • (it should say something like SSL (IF available)

Even though the incoming is IMAP, keep the outgoing SMTP:

    Outgoing server settings

    • Email server: smtp.charterinternet.net
    • Port: 25
    • SSL: Verify that the SSL box is UNchecked.
    • (it should say None)
    • Require sign in should be unchecked
    • Username & Password are not required
When you have verified that the new settings are working, you can delete the old account that doesn't work by holding down the account name, and a menu will pop up with an option to remove.
