I won't be able to activate my Nexus 5 after it arrives for a month due to contract end date and billing cycle.
My question is can I download and set up apps and customise on wireless alone without causing any problems before I put in the Sim later and activate.

Silly question it may be however thanks

i don't think you will have any problem. i played with mine couple of hours before activating. other people done days. you can use it as a media device. when you first turn it on keep an eye on what terms you are agreeing to. if possible connect it to wifi and do the initial update. if no wifi like me, you can wait till you have activated then update. i did this on 3G all apps one by one.

You'll be able to activate it on Google, sync and install all the apps you need on WiFi no problem. Then just insert the SIM when it arrives.

So then I can still use my Galaxy Nexus as usual until I actually install the Sim, port and activate?

I'm in the same boat you're in. My Verizon contact ends in a few days. Have had my n5 for about a week now.

It's been rooted, used Google restore to set up my apps.
