I am trying to share a photo with someone via Messaging. This photo can come from the built-in camera app, or I can import it from my PC, taken with a regular camera.

I open the photo, touch Share, select Messaging. The photo appears in a new message. I add text and send. My target reports getting the text I added, but no picture.

When I view the message in the "Sent" list, the picture has a "Play" icon in the center of it. If I tap it, it opens in video player, and "plays" for 5 seconds. Always 5 seconds and exactly 5 seconds.

It does the same when I start with a message, then "attach" the photo.

Yes, I am absolutely sure these are not videos. The camera is not in video mode. My external camera doesn't even have a video mode option. I can export them to my PC, and open them in Picasa, or Photo Shop, or even Paint. They are simple .jpg images.

    Samsung Captivate.
    Android 2.2.
    Rooted.
    Not unlocked.
    Built-in camera and messaging apps.
