SHMUPS - Shoot Em Ups/Space Shooters/Shooters

Looking for a SHMUP type game! (Google Play or Amazon Market is fine)

Can be top down or side scroll. Free would be awesome! I realize I might have to break the bank at under $2 though


Anything similar to Darius Gaiden, MUSHA, Raiden, etc. I'm not a huge fan of the atari type simply ones, but then again they don't have to be fancy or 3D lol! Huge Sega Genesis fan so naturally I have an affinity for these type games (so many on the Genesis).

I saw that featured on androidpolice earlier in the week, potentially not what you're looking for, but does look a good game.

If you want a bit of dept with your space shooting try Galactic Phantasy Prelude It's free on google play, has some IAP, but overally enjoyable game, a bit tough, and has beautiful HD graphics that require a bit stronger phone

I play Xelorians - Space Shooter. It's a top down SHMUP. Free/Paid - no IAP. I also like being able to use the S Pen to navigate the ship.

But I still suck at SHMUPs...

My Play review:
"Great game, awkward controls I played this game for hours as a kid, and loved it. This is a tried and true, spot-on port of that game. I love it. Only complaint is the hilariously awkward digital control stick. I usually just use the touch-and-drag controls as a result. PS- Learned a lesson. Don't "Game Guardian" yourself 1,500,000 points. It makes the game impossible to play."

Wow, awesome list! Do any of these games work with controllers such as Xperia Play, Moga, or even an onscreen joystick which could be mapped with gamekeyboard? I'm a huge shmups fan, but I've been really disappointed that most of the android shmups are touchscreen only where you control your ship with a pen or stylus. Not really my thing, so I've been sticking with 2d platformers and emulation mostly ever since I got my Xperia Play a few months ago.

OpenTyrian supports hardware controls and buttons, I believe it'd support controllers by extension.

If your rooted, best combo i'd recommend is the ps3 controller + sixaxis app. This is what i use on the go and most of those shmups are working with that setup compared to other controller options such as moga etc.

My shmups collection it’s huge and i build it in one month of work.Now that my cab software is finally taking shape, I am wondering if you will like it.I play shmups exclusively on Windows 10(64 bits).I’m using of course MAME but a special version who emulates all known arcade shumps.(http://taxi.freedns.ro/shmups/)
