Today i woke up to randomly see an app on my home screen called "Shop Apps" with a green shopping cart icon. I clicked this and brought me to a web page that is called Appia or something. Is this malware or a virus?

Could be. I use an antivirus on my phone called Lookout and it's free. Try installing it and then run a scan to be sure. If it's not a virus but you still don't want it you can always uninstall it

When i try to uninstall it, it doesnt show up anywhere on my phone. Not the file viewer search or even the google widget via Search my phone.

    This one?
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobilebeez.stockmarket.tips

    It's in the permissions:-
    System tools
    install shortcuts

...and one review says "This app is an 'AdBomb'!!"

So uninstall it and the ad crap should go away. Or you should be able to delete them manually from the home screen.
