Root Shortcuts going MIA?

Hello all! I just updated to Gingerbread .595 and I love it. I do have an problem that I hope someone has a solution for.

I put allot of the apps I use on the SD card and then have the shortcuts to them on my screen. This worked great with FroYo and I never had a problem. Now with GB I'm getting a problem with this. Whenever I plug the phone into my PC to download or upload files, all my shortcuts disappear from the screens. The apps are still there and I can put the shortcuts back on the screens, but it takes time and has become very annoying. This doesn't happen when I reboot or plug into a charger, just when I'm working with the SD card through the PC.

I tried to use Launcher Pro as I'd read on another thread, but it won't install on my phone. (Not compatible with this version of GB?) I assume I'm not the only one who's encountered this before so I'm asking if anyone else has another solution for it. Thanks all for your help!

Im using Launcher Pro on 595 no problems. I did have it on 591 before I flashed to 595 though. Maybe thats the difference. No idea about your other problem though.

Are those apps installed on the internal memory or the SD card?

If they're on the SD card, move to internal memory. Settings->applications->manage applications, click the app, and "move to phone" (if the option is "move to sd card" then that's not your problem.)

This has happened to me and what I discovered was that Market had done some updates with app's that replaced the older ones with a newer version. Then the shortcut no longer linked and was only a placemark with the app discription. Is this what is happening to you?

I was trying to keep stuff on the card and keep the phone memory free. Does it hurt performance of I put them back on the phone?

No. Actually, your performance is better if your apps are actually on internal memory.

Unless you have some redonkulously huge amount of apps. The Droid X has 8gb internal memory. You couldn't fill it even if you were trying.
