Does the acer have a locked bootloader?
What are the pros and cons for both trying to make a decision.

For $5.00 more (according to Amazon.com prices for WiFi-only models), you can get an Iconia with the same amount of internal storage (32GB) but with a USB HOST port to allow you to plug in other storage including a camera (I know, I tried it) to grab media files off the flash media. Also, there is no software update needed to enable the MicroSD slot on the Iconia, it works out of the box. I've also read that the Iconia uses DDR3 memory while the Xoom uses DDR2, but I'm unable to confirm that. The Iconia comes with some Acer apps on it, one of them is Clear.fi, that app will allow you to stream shared pictures, music and videos from other devices on your network. There are SOME limitations but Honeycomb 3.1 took some of them away (it will now play .WMV files), the files may or may not play smoothly, I have some WMV videos in 8000K HD that won't play well, likely because of the high quality.

Otherwise, the 2 devices use the same CPU and same size screen.

I do not know if the Iconia or Xoom have locked boot loaders but I DO know people are using different ROMs on their Iconias, so it may not be a locked boot loader.
