Maybe. It will go EOL, but there are things you can do to keep your evo running strong (read: rooting).

I'm not sure about sprint's lineup, but I think the Moto Photon came out recently. Not sure about the specs, but it looked like a decent phone. Just check around, see if the sprint site has any new phones they are advertizing the snot out of.

So I should trade it in?
Well, that depends on if you plan to root it. If you root it you can run one of the many custom ROMs that are available. The advantage to custom ROMs is that this phone won't technically be EOL until the dev community stops supporting it. There are Sense 3.0 ROMs now and this phone won't ever officially get Sense 3.0 from htc. However, custom ROMs won't address the fact that newer phones are arriving with faster processors and more internal memory. Sense 3.0 is quite large and takes up a lot more memory than what you have now so more internal memory will be a huge benefit.

What I would do is go into a Sprint store and check out the newer handsets. You might find something you like that will be supported for a while longer.

is it the cost of the phone that is keeping you from .. getting a new model?

Evo is very cheap online...
you can find EVO 3D for $99 online in some places. also there is the Photon...and EPIC Touch coming in a week.

think about it.. you will be stuck with the phone for 2 yrs....
what is $100 or $200 .. over a 2 yr period with a phone that is already 1 yr old?

personally... i
I love love love my EVO .. rooted and running great!
but would find a way to get the newer phone!

yes.. you still get the 2yr discount deal.. but it started on the original purchase date.

you will have to pay the price difference...

in addition: if your are an old/existing sprint customer.. you might have to pay the restocking fee...$35

You'd think Sprint would get rid of the restocking fee for existing and old customers, as a sort of 'perk' for sticking with em so long. Guess Sprint and myself have different ideas of sound business.

Eh. That's life.

yeah.. you would think...

but they have to charge someone.. for the cost of a new phone that they can not sell as new anymore.

and you cant charge the "new" customers because of the 30day no cost guarantee.

Ive heard rumor of the Evo 2 being released around the holiday season. I'd buy a clean phone from CL or something to hold you over until the 4th quarter phones are released.

I have the evo for another year and still love it. I am running Synergy Rom with a partitioned SD card. Its great. all the good elements from newer sense versions and plenty of internal space left.

There are several people here to help you with questions and thorough guides to help you with anything you want to do!

I'd wait to buy a new handset but thats just me. If you decide to keep the EVO, its still a great device!

I wouldn't use my 2 year contract price to buy a phone that's already a year behind. The Samsung Epic 4G Touch is about to come out on friday I believe, it's already being talked about as maybe the best phone EVER

It's still a pretty solid phone and has a solid base...for now. However, with technology as we have seen since it's brother the Evo 3D has come around, we have lost many fellow fans from our community. So support may start to become limited as time goes on and especially since the phone will go EOL in October. You may want to check out the Evo 3D or Evo Shift, although the Shift isn't too popular either.

The good thing is that this phone has tons of information available to you and if you run into a problem, you will find information to help you in that problem unlike new phones where you may be stuck figuring things out for yourself.

But keep in mind that many of us may not physically be here if you have further questions because we may move to new devices soon. I may be moving to the iPhone if it comes to Sprint...sorry guys lol

If you like it, keep it. If not, check with other phones out there or wait until the end of the year to see if anything new comes around you may like.

OP, I'm in the same boat.

I have until Oct 15 though...

Keep this thread updated with your ultimate decision.

FWIW, I'd take the EVO over the G2ET, but that's just my preference.

You could always set up a google voice acct, port your mobile number thereto, return the EVO and cancel your contract within the 30-day period, and sit back to see what comes out in the next few months, while using a burner phone and keeping your mobile number in reserve.

Go with your gut.:)
