Can you silence the shutter sound on the camera?
Yes you can disable the shutter sound. In the app store get "Mute" it kills all sounds.
If you use the volume controls to set the phone to silent before taking the picture it will do this as well. You can also download camera magic from the market, which has an option to disable the sound. You lose the flash ability though.
Now that it is possible to root this device, I've managed to disable the sound in camera and camcorder permanently. I might post a detailed tutorial later, but this is a somewhat dangerous thing for someone who doesn't know what they're doing. The gist of it is, gain root using the technique here:
The Midnight Channel - How to root the Samsung Moment
after you're completely done and booted, su. Mount /system read/write as you did in the rooting instructions. In /system/media/audio/ui, make a directory called orig, and mv camera_click.ogg and VideoRecord.ogg into there (for backup.) Create a .01 second silent.ogg file (I used audacity) and push it to /system with adb. mv it to /system/media/audio/ui, then
ln -s /system/media/audo/ui/silent.ogg /system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg
ln -s /system/media/audo/ui/silent.ogg /system/media/audio/ui/VideoRecord.ogg
Done. If you break your phone, don't blame me.
