Help signal strength

Hi,

I'm getting the same problem in this thread http://androidforums.com/hero-support-troubleshooting/12190-signal-issues-orange-hero.html

My phone is suffering poor signal strength for recieving calls, sms, data etc

im running android 2.1 update 1.

According to the above thread i need to go to "setting>wireless controls>mobile network setting>use 2g only" but i do not have this option running this version. Is there an app or am i being blind finding the options

As well when I update with 2.1 it was some changes in my phone, my favorites list change from calls to messages. I ry to changes that by I can now it is so long to mke a call to my favorities . Please some one can help me to rectifie this.
