hey everyone, Hope everyone is doing great.
I have a few simple questions about the second generation Nexus 7.
I have seen from the specification of Nexus 7 posted on various sites that all versions of the Nexus 7 2 have support for
    2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 - all versions

    1) Does this mean we will be able to make phone calls over the 2g network ?
    2) Does it work even with the Wifi only version ?
    3) The only difference between the Wifi and Cellular versions is the additional support for 3g and 4g bands ?

Thanks a lot in advance. Looking forward to the answers and views.
    Thank you..

Where have you seen that spec? I haven't seen it anywhere. My 16G 7.2 only has wifi, no other network support built-in.

I think the 2G support is only available for those models with 3/4G support.

    1. no. It means it has 2g connectivity on T-mo and AT&T in the US and whatever other carriers that use those bands for 2g around the world
    2. nope. It works on the LTE version only
    3. Yes. Well that and the sim card tray, so that it can connect to a cellular tower.

hey marc..thanks a lot for all the info...to summarize.
    1) Only the LTE version has the sim tray..
    2) Having support for 2g means only data connection say GPRS and so on and does not actually mean that we can make phone calls the 2g network in the supported network.
Am i right in my assumptions ?
One last question...Since the LTE version has the sim tray...Will it be possible to make phone calls (through 2g) atleast in that version ?
Thanks again for all the help..

You are right in that assumption that you can't actually make calls. 2g network is a data network... You would need a supported voice network, although if you google voice and the paid version of groove ip you would be able to make calls through a cellular data network. That would be the only way that it would support voice.

Hang on forgive me here, it's early and I am only on my first coffee....

Are you saying that all the new Nexus 7.2 wifi models have 2g connectivity for data?

No, the Wifi version that is out has no mobile data connectivity. There is a second model coming out later that will be mobile data enabled.
