Well its not really a game, just a graphics demo I made for my first project using unity on android. I haven't tested it on anything but my xperia play so maybe you guys could try it out and let me know, Cheers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9A4CKvB2ev4 https://market.android.com/details?id=com.KimStockton.SkyCastle3D
Graphics looks amazing but it lags like crazy on my SGS2. Is this going to be an RPG or Action/Adventure game?
Yep, lags like crazy on my Galaxy S II (frustrating to have Android's best GPU but some of the best graphical games aren't coded for it!). Will try will some different drivers via CF3D and see if performance can be tidied up a bit If any alternate drivers work better then I will also see how it looks with some added 4XAA on there...
Flawless on the EVO 3D which has a similar graphics chip to the PLAY (Adreno 220 vs. 205). Although it is just a demo, it would be nice to be able to explore the entire castle vs. the one room inside and that outside area it currently has. The jump feature is cool double tapping the right control stick, though jumping seems to be exagerated a bit (almost like you're on the moon). Some more sounds would be nice like footsteps as you walk/jump. The right control that you use too look around could use some tuning as well (seems a little slow). Maybe it's more realistic the way it is now; I'm just used to playing FPS games with a mouse sensitivity realtivity high (10-15) and being able to turn around as slow or as fast as I please. Good job though! I can't wait to see what else you have in the works.
Hi, I apologise for the slow performance, I worked on it all night optimising it, try it again and let me know what its like now. @NZtechfreak - do you think its the way unity is coded? maybe the next release at the end of this month will fix things. @Spartoi - this is just a demo using all that I have learned in unity thus far, I haven't decided what my first proper game will be yet but I thought i'd release this with Ads and it might help pay off some of the licences I had to buy to make games for android. @androidquake - yes all by my self, although obviously I did use the Unity engine.
Yep, or a least unitys version of java script, there is some c# in there aswell for the ads. Most of it comes from examples included in unity and the unify wiki as well as other various forums/blogs around the internet. I'm what some people may refer to as a copy and paste coder.
I left a comment on the Market, this is an outstanding tech demo. I have a problem on my Xoom where the ad displays as a large white square in the upper center of my screen, it says there is an error displaying it for my device. I would very much love to see you open it up a bit more explore the entire map if possible, I'm not sure that it is or not. Fantastic job none the less!
That's not my experience, it runs but the performance is not great, controls are laggy so the framerate probably isnt very high and this is with the latest firmware.
Runs silky smooth on my Evo 3D. Great job! Seeing this shows how a port of Elder Scrolls Oblivion would be possible on our phones.
Hi, thanks for the feedback, I guess different people have different opinions of what framerate/lag is acceptable. Thanks to those of you who commented on the android market, the first one I received was a bit negative but since then its been fairly positive. About the ad bar, it is a bit horrible isn't it, I'll do somthing about that soon, i'm not sure what exactly, probably have it come up for a few seconds and then go away, or something along those lines. I can see a few more ways to improve performance so I think i'll do one more update with the ad fix as well before moving onto my next game. Cheers.
Kim, love the Skycastles demo and would like to get in touch directly. I have sent you an email on here but I am not sure how efficient the system is on here. Please get in touch as I have a possible proposition for you that might be of interest. Regards, BMJ
I know this one's kind of died down but I just checked out the app and have to say those are the best graphics I've seen yet on an android game. Gorgeous. Ran 100% smooth on my Inspire. Ads are a bit much but it's easy enough to get rid of them with the wi-fi toggle.
