Help Sleep option becomes unresponsive

I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0, it has been rooted for about 5 years but this problem is recent. I have it set to sleep at 10 minutes of non-use but instead of sleeping the screen briefly turns brighter, then locks up & all apps were closed as if it had been restarted. I can unlock it again & open my apps back no problem, but after it does that I cannot lock the screen again. The power button won't sleep it & apps to close the screen only put it back into lock mode but the screen stays on for good. The only way to fix this is for me to hold the power button to restart it. This is really annoying as I usually use my tab for reading. Has anyone else experienced this? Has anyone found a solution? Thanks!

5 years!!!!!!! i think you need to move on. try wiping cache and dalvik cache(i think twrp still offers this) and see if that helps.

Haha! That's just how long I've had it rooted, I've had it much longer than that. I don't upgrade often. I tried your advice but I don't think they have my model as an option in their list. I'll look into alternatives that might, are there any other particular ones you suggest? Thanks.

Well since you do not have a custom recovery and this could be either a hardware or software issue, you might want to factory reset the device or flash a firmware update. If the problem persists afterwards then it's a hardware issue which you can try and get it fixed(probably too expensive to do) or get a new device.
