Whether I charge it in my el-cheapo dock I got off eBay, or with the stock charger it came with, it's VERY slow. I can leave it in all evening just to go from 70% to 100%. I'd hate to see how long it would take from near zero.

    Are you guys/gals experiencing this?

    In a word, no.

I noticed that my phone was running very low two hours ago. The battery was at 4%. Charging since then has got to 73% so not lightning quick but not too bad.

One curious thing about the SGS2 is how varied people's experience of it is. I have seen quite a few problem reports but apart from a weak signal occasionally, I haven't experienced any of them. I know that's lucky for me but it seems odd that there should be so much variation.

I think that those of us with good ones aren't experiencing the problems and therefore we aren't posting about them. My charging is fine, my WiFi is as good as any mobile I've had, my 3G signal is just as good. I get a good day from it (get up at 6am and still have charge left at midnight) even though I am still in the "new toy, keep playing with it" stage. I've had no re-starts, freezes or lockups and every app I have tried seems to work.

All in all, very happy. Maybe very lucky, but very happy.

Thanks for the replies (everyone). Hmmm, at 700mah it should only take a couple hours to charge it from zero. Maybe I have a faulty battery.

I'll wait a few more charges and hopefully it will get better as charging goes on

+1! I've also had no problems with my phone so far *touch wood*. I am able to get almost a full day's use out of it, having to charge it around 7pm in the evening after being up since 6am. Mine charges pretty quickly, taking maybe 2 hours to fully charge from <20% battery.

Just a heads up, I have also used my iPhone/iTouch charger and it charges the SG2 just as fast as the stock one. I am unable to use the charger that came with the device as I am in the USA and do not have the adapter.

yes the charge rate seems to be limited internally on the S2 - http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...-galaxy-s2-energizer-xp8000-battery-pack.html - even XP8000 which charges at 1000mah only does it at 700mah with my S2

wait!? haha do you mean the little block adapter!? man i should've thought of that a looooong time ago. it takes hours and hours to charge mine because i have to do it via USB to computer since i'm also in the US.

i've just been very afraid to use another charger because i don't want to mess up my phone

Yep, I use the little block charger that is about 1" x 1" square. It charges my SG2 rather quickly.

    Enjoy:D

thanks man. i don't have that specific one anymore but i do have an official Apple product one. i picked up an Apple Component AV cable back when i had an iPhone and it came with a slightly larger adapter that's just like the square one. really awesome news. tired of waiting like 4+ hrs for it to charge  sometimes i don't think about these things lulz

Yah I'm on KE2 but can't figure out how to upgrade it. The Kies Air and Kies (with cable) dont' seem to have any options. And the Upgrade option in settings says I have the latest software.

On. I'm sure Samsung doesn't expect everyone to shut down their phones every time they plug it in :)

I ask as wondering how it effects charge rate with phone on/off. I'm getting closer to 500-600mah charge rate with S2 on right now

It shouldn't make much of a difference as the draw while sitting idle (although ON) shouldn't be much. Not enough to notice at least. I remember with old phones of the 90's they'd always say to turn your phone off. But that was back when people didn't NEED their phone on :) Heck my phone is my online phone line. So if I turn it off while charging, that means I don't get phone calls for hours. Maybe that would be good thing.

dude iunno. i know the volts are the same, but the amps aren't.
i'm no electrician, but supposedly even though it can supply up to 1A (SGS2 goes up to .7A) it won't affect the phone because the block will supply up to 1A. i'm just scared... i mean $750 dollars lol anyone here know about electricity and charging?

This might be a double post, but the Samsung charger charges at

0.7A whereas my HTC Desire charger charges at 1A. (Just read the actual chargers :))

Only had one charge, overnight but 0% so I can't comment on whether it is fast or slow.

Some investigation of the SGS2 kernel source over at xda-developers shows that the SGS2 limits its current draw to 650 mA from an AC adapter, and 450 mA from a USB adapter. It tells the difference by looking at the resistance across the two USB data pins -- low resistance (< 200 ohm) means it's an AC adapter.

The 650 mA limit is a bit lower than expected -- you'd expect a value closer to 1000 mA -- probably to keep the SGS2 from getting too hot during charging, or to keep the battery from exploding.

no, it shouldn't be closer to 1000 mA. the wall charger supports .7A so 650 mA sounds about right...

also, for anyone with the Euro charger that would like a US one, any Samsung OEM travel adapter will work. look for part # ETA0U60JBE/APCBU10BBE. you can find them for $3.99 on amazon with free shipping and you'll net yourself an extra USB cable :)

Most Phone battery's nowadays are li-ion, these are designed to be constantly topped up charged, you shouldn't let them get too low, constantly, they don't have a lot of zero to full charges capability.

By design li-ion batteries usually charge fast charge to 80% then trickle charge to 100% the first 80% can take two hours and the next 20% can take 2 hours, so around four hours in total. This is usually fine for most charging and overnight is fine too, if you leave it charging for up to 500 hours it wont damage the battery.

Sometimes the first time the battery is charge the calibration is off...
in this case use the phone until the battery dies, then keep trying to turn the phone on and get the last battery used for the next 10-15mins.

When totally dead plug in and leave phone charging, but make sure the device is off.

Then when fully charged (id say leave over night) remove and use as normal, but dont let battery get below 20%, and this time plug it in and charge with phone on, battery should then be working ok!!

If not... either an App is draining the battery, go into settings, about and battery usage and see whats been eating the battery, mine used a lot of maps and wifi sharing when i first got it but last two days on moderate use now!!

give it a try and if still crap take it back!!

Got my GS2 last Friday, been used constantly over weekend , then at work today with it on my desk doing nowt, battery went from 96% to 33% in 5 hrs .

Was at 4% by time got home, been charging on stock charger for over 2 hrs, switched on, at 75%. Guy in Vodafone shop reckons may be a dodge battery, but I need to do a log of use versus battery consumption over next couple of days to prove...
