Help Smart Stay Not turning screen off

Does anyone else have this issue? I have the phone on table away from me so the camera cant see my face. I have my screen timeout at 15 secs and smart stay on. I hit the Power bottom and walk away. I can see the smart stay come on but the screen doesnt turn off even thought the camera doesn't see my face. I'm afraid that the screen will just stay on if my phone gets a missed call and i'm not around.

Are you using it in well lit areas, it could be the issue if its dark (no brainer I know)
Or

apparently this is happening in alot of the galaxy phones with smart stay, with few people
reporting that it actually works.mine is like that where it just doesnt work at all
