I am frustrated that when I search for contacts in my HTC Legends SMS app "messages" , as I type it provides every matching contact including those without a mobile number, and for each match it shows me every single contact address I have, emails, landlines etc.

Is there an SMS app that only provides contacts who have a mobile number in their contact details, and only shows me the mobile numbers for those contacts?

Answering my own question, "handcent" seems to do this, by default it only shows contacts with phone numbers which ata stroke cuts down the number of suggestions Android was showing me, and there is an option to only show contacts with mobile numbers, so that does exactly what I want, (and from browsing the forums what quite a few others also want).

As a side benefit it also does SMS pop ups for new incoming messages so I don't need a separate app for that.

Its free though it does have ads on the settings screen only, if its as good as it appears first glance I'd pay for an ad-free version.

Have just installed it and will see how I get on.

Been using Handcent for over 6 months. It just keeps getting better and better with every update. Dig through the settings options and you'll find a TON of stuff you love about it. Extremely customizable. You'll want to use Titanium Backup (or the like) to back it up though ... just in case you ever need to reinstall. This makes saving the settings and restoring them a breeze. Otherwise, it sucks to try to get it back to the way you had it previously.
