When do you get these errors?

Are you able to send and receive sms messages at all?

    Please give more details.

I found this: HTC Evo 4G - [RESOLVED]: Unable to send or receive text messages

Google found another post on xda-developers, in their Evo forum.

So, if this is a Sprint phone, it sounds like an activation issue. If not, perhaps it is anyway. For a Verizon phone, you can activate by dialing *228 and then, after prompted, press 1 to activate.
