I just bought the Nexus 4 yesterday and have Android 4.4.2. Since turning on my phone this morning, none of the messages I send on Hangouts or otherwise are visible to me once sent; the entire message disappears completely, as if I never sent anything. The recipient confirms receiving my message, and I receive theirs, but my replies are not visible to me for some reason. Sometimes, the recipient's messages are also only visible in the message preview.

Has anyone experienced this or have any suggestions? I have already sent feedback and restarted my phone, and my software is up to date.

Does it show the same in the messaging app? You can clear data on hangouts in app manager.

Yes, it is the same in the messaging app. I cleared the data on the Hangouts app, but that hasn't made any noticeable difference. Thank you for the suggestion though.

Do you have all your stuff backed up? If so I would do a factory reset and send a message with nothing on the phone. If you don't want to reset you can always try and use a 3rd party messaging app gosms or handcent and see if that helps.
