SMS / Notification alerts

I've recently purchased an HTD Desire but am stuck on the following. I have linked it to a Bluetooth hands free car kit (a Parrot) but every time it syncronises it plays the notification sound (and it does this every few minutes). That isn't too much of a problem if I set that to a simple beep but as far as I can tell this is also the same sound to notify of incoming SMSs. Is there a way of having seperate SMS alerts?
