sms on unactivated phone

a friend of mine gave me his old phone because he got a new one. i have wifi in my house and the phone has wifi so whats the best app to use to send texts and picture messages? the phone isnt activated so all the apps that require you to give them a number wont work (obviously lol). i tried pinger textfree but it froze and force closed all the time. i'm using google voice now but i cant send pictures with it. i would be very grateful if someone could tell me the best app to use for messaging. also any other info you could give me would be awesome considering this is the first android phone ive ever had lol. thanks everyone

im in the u.s. and ive tried skebby but it wont work either. it also asks for a phone number lol.

hmmm go to the skebby website. mite b able to get it going that way.

get yor friends to use something that will suit u, mayb im+. im+ is for connecting to windows live messenger
