Help sms showing unread message but there isn't

Hey all,
Having a bit of a problem. I guess i deleted a sms thread while receiving a text from that person so now my phone always says like 2 unread messages in my notification bar when there is only one and I cannot figure out how to get it to stop doing this. I've battery pulled, deleted all threads and it is still there. I am using stock messaging app. Any ideas how I can get this to stop happening?
Thanks!

Someone posted this exact same problem a week or two ago on here. They ended up getting a SMS Cleaning app off the market (sorry, don't remember which one), had the person send them a new text, then used the app to wipe the thread. It worked.

I tried sms cleaner free and it didn't fix the issue. The text doesnt exsist so will the program know its there? What's strange is if I reset my phone the text will display by itself in the notification bar but when I click it from there it just goes to a sms screen and says loading and just sits there.

thank you terabethia! worked. I didnt look at settings to check delete unread message. Thank you i was starting to get really pissed!

LOL, glad it's all fixed.

I think the person from the other thread had to have the person send a new txt and then used the program to wipe it all, or something like that. Guess she didn't realize there was some additional things in settings, either.

Where is this setting?

How do you fix this again? I can't find the solution for this. I'm having the same problem. I can't find "delete unread messages" anywhere. Thanks.

Hi guys, I know this is an old thread, but I had experienced that issue several times.

First I had a non-android phone and I don't know how the notification disapeared, but it toke several months.

Second time I had a LG GW620 and... same thing :P can't remember lol

Now I have a LG P-700 (Optimus) and it occured 2 times... so, it's very easy to solve, just downloaded from Play Store an app called Clean Master, go to Privacy, wait until the apps appear, scroll for SMS/MMS and tap it.. you will notice that the annoying message is there. Select it and tap Clean :)

Sorry about my bad english

Okay, this is a bit old now. In fact i made an account just to say this. I had this same problem, but on my Sony Xperia Z. The way i fixed it after trying several things was to go into the thread that was 'unread' and scroll back to older messages. Then after i had scrolled back a few weeks, i closed the app and it had fixed it!

I had the message waiting indicator as well, but did not appear to have any unread. However, I found the default delete option is actually to archive. Which means even if you just swipe across screen to delete before opening the message it will still show unread but in archived folder. You need to delete from archive as well. Or just click on the unread message in archive and this will clear the message waiting indicator.

Reset unread SMS. Download this from the play Store. Found after finding this thread. Will ask permission to be the default messaging app, when it's done will let you go back to your original app.

Free to boot. I donated, I've been pulling my hair out look for a solution
