    Hi,

On my Sony Xperia ZL, I have an option to make calls through mobile provider or through a SIP account, using wifi or 3G.

Is there a way to use this to send SMS also? I didn't find any options or app yet who does this.

    ANy idea?

    THanks.

SMS is done by 2G on a cellphone. About the only way to do SMS without a cellular connection is through an SMS gateway on the web.

You could use an instant messaging app instead but the other user would have to have the app installed too

I mean, we can use MobileVoIp app. to make calls and send SMS through SIP.

On JellyBean, we have an option in settings to add the sip account and make calls through it (on demand, when you call a number).

For SMS we don't have this option. My main question was it there a third app who can work as same than making calls (choose between normal provider or sip account).

Google Voice has the option to send/receive texts via data instead of SMS.

But it's not using SIP like betamax resellers (dialnow, voipwise, voipbuster,...) :(

SIP is a voice protocol, it doesn't pass text.

Sure, messaging may be built into certain VoIP/SIP services and applications, but those messages are not being sent via SIP. Most likely it's just an HTTP PUSH to the service's SMS gateway.

Oh ok, so in this case we have to use their own software to send sms through their platforms?
