I am new to Android, but you can create a shortcut on ur page though.
    1. Open browser
    2. Go to google.com/voice
    3. click on SMS at the bottom
    4. bookmark the page
    5. quit the browser
    6. press screen and select "shortcut"
    7. select bookmark and select the google voice sms bookmark.

Yes, the google voice app has a widget, but this user wants a widget to send sms. The only way I know is to create a shortcut to the web page which has the sms.

Yeah the only way that I can do it is to create shortcut of the contacts on home page.
When I clicked on teh contact it will give me options, when I click on "message"
it give me either default or google message

Google Voice has a Google Voice Inbox widget built in that you can add to your home page. You can either scroll through the messages by hitting the left/right arrows, open the current message to reply to it by tapping on it, or by double-tapping on the upper right corner where the little phone is you can just open the GV SMS app and select any message thread or create a new one from there.

At least that is how it works on my N1.
